Jennifer English, the actor who plays Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3, has revealed the "conditions" that must be met for her to return to the role in future projects. Given the gargantuan success of Baldur's Gate 3, fans are curious to see each of its main characters come back at some point in the future.
Shadowheart is one of the most popular Baldur's Gate 3 companions, and has been ever since the game's launch last year. According to Larian's stats, Shadowheart is the most romanced Baldur's Gate 3 character, which doesn't come as a massive surprise. Her personal growth storyline is one of the most satisfying in the entire game, and players who don't engage with it miss out on a lot. While this storyline does reach its natural conclusion by the end of Baldur's Gate 3, there's always more that can be done with the character, which is why many fans would like to see Shadowheart return in the future.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, Shadowheart actor Jennifer English confirmed that "we're [the cast] all open to the future of it." Previously, several other Baldur's Gate 3 actors had confirmed interest in returning to their roles, although English claims here that she "would want it to be beautifully written and honor the game's audience, and how inclusive and forward-thinking Larian is." She continued, "If that opportunity came up and she was beautifully written, and that audience and inclusivity was honored, I would certainly consider it – but only with those conditions."

Her biggest concern is that she "wouldn't want to take her and make her into a cartoon version of her," pointing out that she would only return if it honors her in a way I think we would all be proud of." Ever since Larian confirmed it won't return for future Baldur's Gate projects, the cast's involvement going forward has always been a big question mark. Given the cast's commitment to getting it right (should a return materialize), it would undoubtedly be a positive sign for the non-Larian Baldur's Gate games to get these actors on board.

Without Larian, the duty now falls to Wizards of the Coast to find a new Baldur's Gate developer. It's an unenviable task, given the fanbase Larian has garnered thanks to its efforts on Baldur's Gate 3. As for Larian itself - it's moving on to other projects. Earlier this year, the Baldur's Gate 3 developer opened a new studio to assist with two new RPGs, confirming for the first time that it has multiple projects in development. Larian and Baldur's Gate may be going their separate ways, but both still have very exciting futures apart.
