In Baldur's Gate 3, selecting the right equipment, such as armor and weapons, is crucial to surviving many encounters and ensuring your Tav and Companion builds are operating at maximum efficiency. Different items can provide various buffs, passive abilities, and even new Actions, Spells, and Cantrips for your characters to utilize both inside and outside of combat.
When it comes to the best items obtainable in the early stages of the game, the Adamantine items stand out as they either ensure 100% critical hits or prevent you from being hit with critical rolls. This is absolutely huge, so knowing how to best utilize each item will come in handy. If you're wondering how to fit each Adamantine item into a decent build, the best Baldur's Gate 3 Class for every Adamantine Item has been outlined in the guide below.
Baldur's Gate 3: Best Spells For Each Patch 8 Subclass
Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 introduced twelve new Subclasses. Find out the best Spells for each of the Casters/Half-Caster Subclasses in this guide.
What Are The Adamantine Items in Baldur's Gate 3?
In Baldur's Gate 3, the Adamantine items are a set of various weapons, armor, and a shield that can be acquired in the early stages of the game, in what is usually considered to be the end of Act One, or "Act 1.5": the Underdark and Mountain Pass. Specifically, players can obtain these items by finding the Adamantine Forge in the Underdark.
These items are a great find so early in the game, as they provide some of the best passive abilities/effects that can be utilized in builds not only in the early stages of the game but also in the late game. For this reason, knowing the best classes to utilize these items will come in handy.
Best Classes for Adamantine Weapons
Every Adamantine Weapon in Baldur's Gate 3 has two effects unique to Adamantine Weapons:
- Diamondsbane: If an adamantine weapon hits an object, the hit is always critical.
- Lethal Weapon: This weapon ignores Resistance to the damage type that it deals; i.e., Slashing or Bludgeoning.

The Adamantine Longsword is a Versatile weapon, meaning it can be wielded two-handed, or one-handed alongside a Shield. This makes it perfect for Fighters and Paladins. In a pinch, it could also be used as a two-handed Barbarian weapon. However, the fact that it can be used versatilely and paired with a Shield for extra AC on the other melee tank classes makes it synergize with them a bit better.

The Adamantine Mace is a one-handed melee weapon, making it a great choice to equip with your Cleric. This is because it can be wielded while also holding a Shield to boost your AC, and because your Spell Slots in the early stages of the game tend to run out a bit more frequently due to being less in quantity, particularly if your Cleric is the only healer/utility character in your party. If your Cleric runs out of Spell Slots, you can simply start hitting with your Mace, giving your Cleric even more impact.
However, the Adamantine Mace can also work for other one-handed + Shield Classes, such as a Paladin or a Fighter. Usually, though, the Adamantine Longsword would serve this purpose better.

The Adamantine Scimitar is a one-handed Finesse weapon, meaning it calculates damage using either the user's Strength or Dexterity, whichever is higher. Thus, it is perfect for DEX-based classes such as the Rogue. It's also a good fit for a Bard, or as a Ranger's melee weapon. Since it's a Finesse Light weapon, you can also wield a second Magical Finesse Light weapon, such as a shortsword, dagger, or another similar in your off-hand to stack other passives and abilities.
Adamantine Armor Items
Each Adamantine Armor item has slightly different effects, but their one common effect is that attacks cannot land critical hits on the wearer.

The Adamantine Shield is perfect for any one-handed weapon + Shield build. The most common classes to utilize this combination are Clerics, Paladins, Fighters. On some occasions, it can be suitable for other melee half-casters, such as an Arcane Trickster Rogue or Hexblade Warlock who frequently uses the likes of Booming Blade, smite spells, physical hits, and other spells that require a melee hit.

The Adamantine Scale Mail is perfect for any Class that primarily utilizes Medium Armor and does not have a build that revolves around Dexterity, as it imposes Disadvantage on Stealth checks. For this reason, Rangers and Rogues with Medium Armor Proficiency are out of the mix. However, that does make this armor perfect for the likes of a Cleric, or a Warlock with Medium Armor Proficiency — perhaps a Hexblade who is more likely to dart in and out of melee range.

The Adamantine Splint Armor is perfect for classes who utilize Heavy Armor. Primarily, this is best suited for Fighter and Paladin builds, but on some occasions, other classes such as Cleric or Druid. For Paladin or Fighter, you can also pair this set of Armor with both the Adamantine Shield and Adamantine Longsword for a full loadout.
