Summary

  • Xbox has fixed the issue of Save Games being deleted in Baldur's Gate 3 when unplugging the console.
  • Players can now enjoy the addictive combat and well-written companions of Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox without losing progress.
  • The game's success at The Game Awards 2023 may lead to future content updates, including a possible Definitive Edition.

Baldur's Gate 3 players can breathe a sigh of relief, as Xbox appears to have fixed Save Game progress being lost when unplugging the console from power. Though it had a few growing pains, the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 allowed its players to finally see what all the fuss is about, from its addictive combat and well-written companions, to layers upon layers of narrative branching. The physical Deluxe Edition is slated to arrive in early 2024, but players have been able to purchase Baldur's Gate 3 on the Xbox Store ever since it stealth-released during The Game Awards 2023.

However, the big issue that Baldur's Gate 3 had on Xbox was its Save Games being deleted, as players who didn't turn off the Quick Resume feature were in danger of irrevocably losing their progress. Though a firmware update for the Xbox Series X fixed the bug, it did not address the possibility of players losing progress when directly unplugging the console.

Baldur's Gate 3 Releases First Xbox Update

Larian Studios releases the first Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox update mere days after shadow-dropping its hit RPG on Microsoft's latest consoles.

Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox Players No Longer Lose Progress When Unplugging the Console

Thankfully, according to Xbox Support on Twitter, it would seem that the latest console patch fixed this specific issue as well, even if powering off one's Xbox by directly unplugging the console isn't a recommended way of testing it. This should hopefully cover the majority of gamebreaking bugs that Baldur's Gate 3 players have come across on Xbox, as they will be able to join fellow PC and PS5 fans in enjoying Larian's blockbuster title.

Baldur's Gate 3 saw resounding success at The Game Awards 2023, where it won six out of eight major awards, including Game of the Year. From its humble beginnings when it launched its Early Access in 2020, Larian took Baldur's Gate 3 to an ambitious release that not only matched the legacy of its predecessors, but arguably established a legacy of its own. Though the developers have stated that no DLC or expansion packs were planned for Baldur's Gate 3, many players aren't quite ready to say goodbye to the Sword Coast just yet.

Patch 5 added the Epilogue to Baldur's Gate 3, which more-or-less completed the vision that Larian had for the base game, but it also implied that the story could pivot to a new direction, and a new adventure. While it's only fair for Larian to rest on its well-earned laurels, it would not be a surprise if a Definitive Edition for Baldur's Gate 3, complete with new content, were to be released in the near future.
