Summary

  • Bandai Namco may be working on a remastered version of Tales of Xillia for modern consoles, potentially reaching new audiences.
  • Listings from Czech/Slovak retailers suggest a remaster called "Tales of Xillia Remastered" may launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox, Switch, and maybe PC.
  • Despite the leaks and evidence, fans should wait for an official announcement from Bandai Namco before getting too excited.

Recent listings have suggested that Bandai Namco is working on a remastered version of Tales of Xillia. Tales of Xillia is the thirteenth mainline entry in the long-running series, and is one of the best games in the Tales series. Xillia was released as a PlayStation 3 exclusive in all regions, and it got a sequel a year later. However, this beloved JRPG is still currently stuck on the PS3 console.

While Tales of Xillia is one of the best PS3 RPGs, the game hasn't had a modern re-release ever since its initial release in 2013. Bandai Namco has been trying to preserve a lot of its games by re-releasing them on modern systems, like the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. However, Bandai Namco has delisted a few Tales games from the PlayStation Store, which includes Tales of Hearts R, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, and Tales of Xillia 2, though oddly not the first game. Reports indicate other games like Tales of Zestriria and Tales of Graces R were delisted in Europe as well. However, it appears there may be some evidence that Tales of Xillia will be remastered for modern systems.

3 Bandai Namco Games Delisted from PlayStation Store In North America

Three classic games published by Bandai Namco are delisted from the official PlayStation Store in North America without previous warning.

Spotted on the r/tales subreddit, there were a number of listings from various Czech/Slovak retailers for a new product called "Tales of Xillia Remastered," with these retailers all being owned by one parent company in Europe. "Tales of Xillia Remastered" will seemingly be launching on PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, and the Xbox Series X/S consoles. Based on the Tales of Symphonia Remastered re-release, it's very likely this remaster will also be coming to PC, too.

Tales of Xillia Remastered Leak, Explained

The cover art appears to be a placeholder, as indicated by how it reuses Tales of Xillia's key art, the images say "art not final," and the "Remastered" font of the logo is borrowed from the aforementioned Tales of Symphonia Remastered release. The big point in favor of this remaster possibly being real is that the listings have unique EANs (European Article Numbers) that aren't shown in a public database, but they are registered to Bandai Namco itself, as they all contain Bandai Namco's licensed prefix. The EANs of the remaster are very similar to other upcoming Bandai Namco releases, like Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero and Spy x Anya: Operation Memories.

As such, all of these hints potentially point to Tales of Xillia being able to escape its exclusivity on the PS3. Tales of Xillia is one of the best games on the PS3, and a potential remaster could help bring it to new audiences. However, despite how real Tales of Xillia Remastered looks, it's still a rumor at the end of the day, so fans should take this information with a grain of salt until Bandai Namco announces more information.
