Summary

  • Battlefield 2042's recent seasons have improved the game's image with new content like weapons, maps, and quality of life updates.
  • Season 7 brings exciting additions like gadgets, vehicles, weapons, visual enhancements, and a new Battle Pass to enhance gameplay.
  • However, while Season 7 introduces two more maps, Stadium being part of a previous map has sparked controversy among fans of Battlefield 2042 who expected two brand-new maps.

The recent seasons of Battlefield 2042 have done a lot to redeem the image of the title, which has been subjected to a lot of criticism ever since its release in 2021. A lot of the problems that the game has faced have stemmed from its perceived lack of overall content, and its periodic in-game seasons have been the perfect way to remedy this.

These seasons for Battlefield 2042 have introduced things like new weapons, game mechanic overhauls, and much-needed quality of life improvements, but the implementation of a range of new maps has arguably been the strongest form of post-launch content for the title. Despite this positive recent run for 2042, the upcoming launch of its seventh season is already drawing some criticism for a questionable choic it makes with its selection of maps.

Battlefield 2042's Season 7 is Great on Paper

Season 7 of Battlefield 2042 is set to introduce a lot of fresh content to the game, with new gadgets, vehicles, weapons, and limited-time events already drawing a lot of attention. Aside from maps, Season 7 is set to add the following content to 2042:

  • Predator SRAW gadget
  • XFAD-4 Draugr vehicle
  • New weapons: SCZ-3, AK SC, DFR Strike
  • Deploy screen enhancements
  • Visual recoil update
  • New Battle Pass

Most recent seasons for Battlefield 2042 have each only introduced one new map to the game, with Season 6 wowing fans with the close-quarters Redacted map, and Season 5 having some success with the addition of Reclaimed. The map pool of 2042 is a particular point of interest for players, as some fans still feel the title needs to do more to offer a wider range of experiences that cover all bases of combat engagements.

Battlefield 2042's Upcoming Stadium Map Might Be Too Familiar

This is why many players initially rejoiced when it was announced that Season 7 of Battlefield 2042 would feature two brand-new maps, especially given how most past seasons have only introduced a single new experience. One of these new maps is called Haven, and is set in a desert mining town named El Alicanto where players will be fighting in tense building-to-building engagements.

While a lot of positive sentiment still exists around Haven, recent developments around Season 7's second map, Stadium, have already brewed up controversy within 2042's community. It seems that Stadium is actually just a small portion of the Hourglass map, which itself is a massive portrayal of the Qatari city of Doha.

As the name suggests, the upcoming Stadium map simply consists of the stadium section of Hourglass, which has been slightly reworked to justify itself as a completely separate smaller-scaled map. This will still provide a wider variety of more intimate maps for players to enjoy in Battlefield 2042, yet many were expecting both of Season 7's maps to be completely new experiences, making Stadium's ties to a past map quite disappointing for some fans. While having another small map is good, it being a rework instead of a brand-new play space has once again brought controversy to Battlefield 2042.
