The developers of Battlefield 2042 have recently unveiled the patch notes for Update 9.2.1, a hotfix that corrects some aspects of the popular first-person shooter. While the new Battlefield 2042 does not bring new content for players, this is still an important patch, as it continues to polish the game.

Developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts, Battlefield 2042 was released in November 2021. Unlike other installments in the series, Battlefield 2042 did not have a single-player campaign, but at least it featured cross-play support, something that the franchise did not have before this installment. Soon after the launch, the title had a fairly mixed reception due to technical issues and failed to meet EA's sales expectations. Over time, however, it became more popular. Last month, Battlefield 2042 surpassed Call of Duty in its simultaneous Steam player count for a period of time, with over 74,000 gamers versus 70,000 from Activision’s shooter.

With Battlefield 2042 popular once again, its devs released the patch notes for Update 9.2.1, which will be available on September 9, 2025. Most of the changes are bug fixes, including multiple problems related to the new Lynx Sniper Rifle weapon, and a balance pass for the SWS-10. The patch also fixed some issues where Player Backgrounds “Always Check Your Rear” and “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” were accidentally swapped. Additionally, Renewal has returned to the Team Deathmatch playlist. Finally, the devs also corrected issues with weekly missions and the Tier Skip functionality.

Battlefield 2042 fans still want a campaign

This latest patch comes on the heels of Update 9.2.0 for Battlefield 2042, which was released in August. The update added the iconic Iwo Jima map to the game, which was seen in other entries such as Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 1943, and Battlefield 5. It also included a few new weapons, such as the KFS2000 Assault Rifle, the Lynx Sniper Rifle, as well as the A10 Warthog and SU-25TM Frogfoot vehicles.

According to previous leaks, it’s expected that Update 9.20 would be the last major update for Battlefield 2042 before the release of Battlefield 6. Battlefield 6 will be released on October 10, 2025, and it’s expected to be one of the most popular FPS games of this year, but with DICE working on it alongside other studios, the new content for the previous entry will likely slow down.

During the Battlefield 6 open beta last month, thousands of gamers played and approved the upcoming shooter, despite some criticizing the maps for being too small. These initial impressions gave the community high hopes for the actual launch, which will have a wider selection of maps and more.
