The first trailer for Battlefield 6 is finally here, and it's promising plenty of intense action centered around a global conflict. Set in the near future, Battlefield 6 has already teased plenty of destruction and heart-pounding moments. Battlefield 6's reveal trailer has been a long time coming, as it's been four years since the last entry, and with a fresh game on the horizon, many are eager to jump into the action.
As exciting as the new installment looks, Battlefield 6 fans may want to be cautious, as Battlefield 2042 promised a thrilling experience, only to be met with a controversial launch. EA has big ambitions for Battlefield 6's player count, so that hopefully means the game isn't repeating its predecessor's mistakes. However, with the surprising confirmation that the game will only be available for PC and current gen consoles, EA's goals may now suddenly be out of reach.

How Does EA Plan to Bring 100 Million Players to Battlefield 6?
This is a player count goal that's ridiculously ambitious, but according to reports from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, EA is willing to spend a lot of money to make sure that the game reaches this proposed milestone. Such a high goal would be hard for a lot of games to reach, even if they are AAA. These numbers are mainly achievable by trying to appeal to the masses instead of focusing on longtime FPS fans, and that alone is a big risk that could end up backfiring over time.
Reported methods aside, the 100 million-player target may not even be possible with the game only being available for current gen consoles. There are still plenty of diehard Battlefield fans who have been playing the game on last-gen hardware. To ask a large portion of the fan base to not only buy a full-priced game, but a brand-new console, too, may deter some from jumping in right away. Granted, there are also plenty of gamers who may have just been waiting for the right game to come along to justify purchasing a new console, and Battlefield 6 might be that title for a lot of people.
EA has yet to reveal the release date for Battlefield 6, but information on the game's official website indicates an October launch.
Current Gen Console Exclusivity is Long Overdue
Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are five years old at this point. Five years into a console's life cycle should mean launching solely for that product is the standard. When God of War (2018) was released, it wasn't surprising that it didn't launch for the PS3. Of course, this current generation has been slower with its roll-outs, but DICE leaving the last gen of consoles behind is ultimately good news, at least when it comes to Battlefield 6's graphics and performance.
A showcase of Battlefield 6's multiplayer will air on July 31.
Battlefield 6's Console Plans Are a Double-Edged Sword for EA
On the one hand, Battlefield 6 finally fully embracing the current gen is a promising hint that the game may be a strong experience. However, on the other hand, EA is making it a lot harder for itself to meet its own goals that were already wildly ambitious. The hype surrounding Battlefield 6 has reached new heights, but only time will tell how many gamers it pushes to purchase a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.
Battlefield 6 may have what it takes to kickstart a new era for the long-running FPS franchise, but the 100 million-player goal hopefully doesn't get in the way of that potential. Right now, Battlefield 6 is a compelling promise, and it can hopefully stick the landing.
