Some Battlefield 6 fans think the upcoming shooter is taking a leaf out of Call of Duty's book and implementing its own BlackCell Battle Pass. Alongside Battlefield 6's multiplayer reveal yesterday, EA also announced a new Phantom Edition, which will come with a BF Pro Token. According to the pre-order information, the Token will reward players with a Battle Pass, 25 Tier Skips, exclusive content, and more.
Yesterday's worldwide multiplayer reveal for Battlefield 6 came with some huge announcements. Not only did fans get to watch plenty of massive content creators go hands-on with the shooter for over 4 hours, but they also got their first glimpse at the long-rumored Battle Royale mode for Battlefield 6. Very little of the mode was shown, but fans were given a brief teaser that showed soldiers, tanks, and other vehicles attempting to escape an impending circle of flames. EA said the mode will be "coming soon" to Battlefield Labs, which means fans will soon get to go hands-on with the highly anticipated Warzone competitor.
Call of Duty is Crossing Over With Another 90s Slasher Franchise
Call of Duty reveals a new collaboration, which is once again with another 90s slasher franchise, for Black Ops 6 and Warzone's Season 5 update.
Last month, an insider revealed the price and editions for Battlefield 6. Now, alongside yesterday's multiplayer reveal, EA confirmed those rumors and announced the official pre-order bonuses and contents of each edition. Included in the Phantom Edition is a plethora of different skin bundles and other cosmetic items, but one thing that stood out to some fans was the BF Pro Token. According to EA, this Token will grant players access to the Battlefield 6 Battle Pass, 25 Tier Skips, exclusive content, and more. Although this might simply be a "premium" version of the Battle Pass, Call of Duty news account CharlieIntel believes this could be similar to Call of Duty's controversial BlackCell Battle Pass.
Battlefield 6 Fans Think It May Have Its Own 'BlackCell' Battle Pass
For those who might be unaware, Activision introduced the BlackCell Battle Pass to Call of Duty back in 2023 with Season 3 of Modern Warfare 2. The feature quickly sparked backlash from the community, as it could only be purchased with real money for $29.99 USD and not with COD Points. It also came with tons of different cosmetic items that are exclusive to BlackCell owners, but fans believed this set a dangerous precedent for the future of the series, as many were already tired of the increasing number of microtransactions available in a $70 title.
If Battlefield 6 is going down the same path as Call of Duty in terms of its Battle Passes, it wouldn't be much of a surprise, as other titles in the first-person shooter genre have already followed suit. Earlier this year, The Finals introduced an Ultimate Battle Pass for Season 7. Similar to Call of Duty's BlackCell Battle Pass, it allowed players to unlock skin variations that are exclusive to Ultimate owners. It also includes 10 extra elite rewards, 1,000 Multibucks to spend instantly, a 20-level head start, and a 25% Match XP bonus. And, just like the BlackCell Battle Pass, it can only be purchased with real money for $29.99 USD.
