Battlefield 6 has given fans a closer look at what to expect from the game's battle royale mode. Titles like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone have lifted the battle royale genre to staggering heights, so it was unsurprising when leaks first emerged that EA might introduce such a mode to the next entry in the Battlefield franchise. With Battlefield 6 now just a month away, the details are starting to clear up.
Despite not even being out yet, the first-person shooter is already off to an impressive start. On the PlayStation store, Battlefield 6 is outpacing Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 pre-orders, and its open beta beat Call of Duty's all-time concurrent player count record on Steam by at least 30,000 users. The beta has now wrapped up, but some lucky gamers are still playtesting it through the closed Battlefield Labs program, leading to a steady stream of new info for those waiting for release day.
Battlefield 6’s Main Battle Royale Competitor Isn’t What You Think It Is
Battlefield 6's battle royale mode is launching in a highly competitive market, but its biggest competitor is not the game most would think of.
Battlefield Labs Reveals Details on Battlefield 6's Battle Royale Map, Vehicles, and More
A September 10 Battlefield Labs community update detailed a few of the battle royale mode's unique features. Notably, it will have what devs call "the deadliest ring in BR." Shrinking rings to push players closer together are a staple of the genre, but Battlefield 6's will carry a new sense of urgency, killing users instantly upon contact. With no way to delay or go in and out of the ring, the mode should be full of action. As confirmed by an earlier leak of Battlefield 6's battle royale gameplay, the battle royale also features destructible environments, with the update saying destruction is "everywhere in this mode."
Beyond the destruction, the mode will feature a massive map with a lot of variety across its locations and points of interest. To help players get around, transport vehicles will litter the arena. These will be different from the combat vehicles seen in an earlier Battlefield 6 leak, as they're meant mainly for transport, not for taking out enemies. However, armored vehicles will also be available for teams to unlock.
Speaking of teams, the battle royale mode will have 25 of them, consisting of four players each for a grand total of 100 participants. While 100-player matches are common in other battle royales, Battlefield 6 has shifted back to 64-player lobbies after 2042's 128-user games failed to impress. EA does say matches will work this way "for this test," so things could change before the final build of the game. Beyond this, Battlefield 6's battle royale will offer "multiple tools" to give squadmates second chances besides the revives and mobile redeploys the Support class has at its disposal. Players also won't be able to change classes once the match starts, weapons and other loot will be availble to find throughout the map, and squads will have missions to gain XP and earn rewards.
Like all Battlefield Labs updates, none of these details are final, so fans should note that the full game may look and work differently. Battlefield 6 releases on October 10, 2025, so it won't take long to know for sure.
