The Battlefield 6 open beta has unfortunately come to an end, but the free-to-play stress test gave the community a taste of the new maps the game has to offer. While only a select few maps were featured in the Battlefield 6 open beta, they showcased the close-quarters engagements and wide-open scale that the series is known for.
The first weekend of the Battlefield 6 open beta only had a few maps to choose from, but more were added to the rotation when the second weekend began. These maps were playable across multiple different game modes as well, with smaller lobbies taking place in more restricted sections of them. These are the fan-favorite maps from the Battlefield 6 open beta, ranked from best to worst.
Battlefield Veterans Are Up in Arms About BF6’s Maps, But I Think They’re Perfect
Battlefield 6’s beta map lineup may be unpopular with some long-time fans, but I’m loving the direction the game is going in.
Siege of Cairo
Strongest Showing Overall
Siege of Cairo is easily the best map that was playable in the Battlefield 6 open beta. It almost feels as if it was lifted straight out of Battlefield 3, and it accommodates every playstyle that the series is known for.
Most of the fighting is done in tight corridors and ruined buildings, which really gives Battlefield 6's infantry a chance to shine. Vehicles still play a large role on the Siege of Cairo map too, with wide-open streets serving as danger zones where tanks search for soldiers with bad positioning. It's a Battlefield classic, and Siege of Cairo will likely remain one of the best maps when the full game releases later this year.
Liberation Peak
Excellent Showcase for Vehicles
Liberation Peak is on the other end of the map design spectrum. It's the largest map featured in the beta, and there's hardly any cover for infantry (aside from the designated conquest flag points).
Vehicles reign supreme on Liberation Peak, and it offers the widest selection of both land and air options that players have seen so far. Tanks can apply serious pressure to objectives, and light vehicles can transport full squads around the map for easy flanks. Plus, Liberation Peak is a sniper's paradise with long sightlines and easy targets at any distance.
Iberian Offensive
Chaotic Indoor Firefights
Iberian Offensive is similar to Siege of Cairo, but it's not quite as enjoyable. It places much more emphasis on close-quarters infantry combat, basically eliminating vehicles entirely—barring a few minor exceptions.
This is the map meant to show off Battlefield 6's fast-paced indoor firefights, but Battlefield is at its best when there are multiple layers affecting a match simultaneously. There's still a ton of potential for destruction, but the chaos of dozens of soldiers stuffed inside the same buildings just isn't as compelling as the more varied Siege of Cairo.
Empire State
Needs Some Tweaks to Be Great
Thematically, Empire State is one of the coolest maps in Battlefield 6. In practice, however, it leaves a lot to be desired. It's a small, linear map without any vehicles, and it feels designed for small-scale modes like Rush or Squad Deathmatch.
There's a lot of verticality on display on Empire State, and you can actually climb inside most of the buildings with some parkour skills. That also means it's easy to get shot by players that you didn't even know existed, though, and the cramped alleyways are more overwhelming than anything else. Empire State has a lot of potential, but as it stands, it needs some work to be truly special.
Even more maps will be featured in Battlefield 6 when the full release comes around in October at least, and larger maps with more vehicles will fill in the blanks from the open beta. Battlefield 6 will also see a long line of post-launch updates as well, and even more maps will be added to the rotation after the game's initial release.
