Battlefield 6 has dropped to overwhelming success on all platforms, with players around the world jumping in to battle it out across a wide range of modes and experiences. With large-scale action, the ability to try out community-created content, and the exciting return to Battlefield's roots, it’s no surprise that Battlefield 6 is one of the most critically acclaimed shooters in recent years.
However, while Battlefield 6 has launched strongly, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for everyone, as a number of issues have appeared for players on different platforms. While packet loss and crashes have been minor issues for some, a high CPU usage problem has been plaguing many PC players during the game’s initial launch window. Here is how to lower your CPU usage in Battlefield 6.

There's too much clutter on Battlefield 6's HUD, especially for those who prefer immersion. Thankfully, there are plenty of UI settings to alter.
How to Fix High CPU Usage in Battlefield 6
One of the best and most successful fixes for the high CPU usage problem many players are experiencing in Battlefield 6 is actually an old solution that worked for the same issue in Battlefield V, originally discovered by Reddit user TheHeavySoldier. To begin, start by opening Notepad and copying the following text:
- Thread.ProcessorCount 6
- Thread.MaxProcessorCount 6
- Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
- Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
- GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 12
Next, open Task Manager and go to the Performance tab. Here, you can find the number of cores and threads your CPU has. For example, if you are using an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor, it has 8 cores and 16 threads, also referred to as logical processors. Replace the 6’s with your number of cores, and the 12 with your number of threads. In this case, it would look like this:
- Thread.ProcessorCount 8
- Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8
- Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
- Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
- GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16
However, if you are using an Intel CPU, it's much better to check the number of performance cores your CPU has on your manufacturer's website, as the amount in Task Manager may not reflect this. Once you have done this, save the file as User.cfg inside your Battlefield 6 game root folder. You can find this folder by heading to:
- EA Play: Battlefield 6 / Manage / View Properties / Open Folder
- Steam: Battlefield 6 / Properties / Manage / Browse Local Files
After saving the file, launch Battlefield 6. If the fix works, you should notice a significant drop in CPU usage. After this, you can also lower some of your graphics settings to boost performance, increase frame rate, and potentially reduce both your GPU and VRAM usage.
