Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was this year's most surprising announcements, as the game takes the series back into the future in the year 2035. Set after the events of Black Ops 2, Black Ops 7 follows David Mason as he and his team work to take down a dangerous new threat.
This is a pretty standard formula for the Black Ops series, but the game being set in the not-so-distant future lends itself to some exciting tech and borderline sci-fi themes. Black Ops 7's leap into the future raises plenty of questions about where its story is headed, but one of the biggest questions of all is why Activision is shuffling its feet toward the finish line while the anticipation for Battlefield 6 has quickly been heating up this summer.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's First Beta May Arrive in Late September
A reliable Call of Duty insider shares new details on the first beta weekend for Black Ops 7, which may not be arriving until late September.
While Battlefield 6 Hype is Spreading Like Wildfire, Black Ops 7 is Taking Things Slow
Black Ops 7 Was Revealed Quite Early
The first teaser trailer for Black Ops 7 closed out June's Xbox Games Showcase, leaving a lot of gamers waiting for the next update. Recently, fans finally got word on when to expect more news. Black Ops 7 will be part of Gamescom's Opening Night Live event on August 19. As one of the biggest gaming events of the year, Gamescom is an exciting stage for Black Ops 7 to be part of, but it's also possible that Battlefield 6 might take some of the wind out of its sails.
Black Ops 7 stars actors Milo Ventimiglia, Michael Rooker, and Kiernan Shipka.
Battlefield 6's First Trailer is Only a Few Hours Away
- The first trailer for Battlefield 6 will premiere on YouTube tomorrow, July 24, at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM BST.
Beyond this highly anticipated trailer, there are already rumors that an open beta will soon follow. An open beta for Battlefield 6 has already been confirmed, but an official date has yet to be announced. Dataminers found evidence within the EA App that it could be on August 4, but such claims should be met with skepticism.
Potentially getting an official reveal trailer and an open beta back-to-back already puts Battlefield 6 ahead of Black Ops 7 in a major way. The open beta date isn't the only rumor circulating, either. Another prominent datamining group, 1BF, recently claimed that Battlefield 6 may launch on October 10. Tomorrow's trailer premiere may finally confirm or deny these rumors, but only time will tell. If all of these claims are true, though, that means July, August, and October will be one exciting Battlefield 6 milestone after another, while Black Ops 7 continues to wait in the wings.
Yes, Black Ops 7 is showcasing more footage in August, but with rumors that the game may not launch until November 14, that leaves a lot of time for Battlefield 6 to gain the upper hand. If both release dates are accurate, then Battlefield 6 will have nearly an entire month in the spotlight before Black Ops 7 hits the scene, and that could potentially hurt it at launch, especially if the former is as strong of a game as first-person shooter fans are hoping.
Battlefield 6 will also take place in the near future.
2025 Could Mark the Return of the Battlefield/Call of Duty Rivalry
After Battlefield 2042's controversial launch in 2021, the franchise has been treading water while Call of Duty has maintained a steady lead. However, Battlefield 6 arriving before Black Ops 7 could finally reignite some healthy competition between the franchises. This remains to be seen, but tomorrow's Battiefield 6 trailer premiere is bound to shed some long-awaited light on what the next mainline chapter in the series has in store.
