Some players are receiving fake Battlefield 6 playtest invites on social media as part of a scam to reportedly steal users' Steam information. EA offered fans the first real look at the long-awaited game in a July 24 trailer after months of development and slow information releases. Now that excitement around Battlefield 6 is surging after the reveal, scammers are trying to cash in on it.
Legitimate player testing has been going on for quite some time. EA had promised to send tens of thousands of Battlefield Labs invites throughout 2025 to get more fan feedback and ensure the next title in the shooter series can live up to audience expectations after a disappointing last release. While Battlefield Labs is still operational, not every invite gamers may see in the coming months will be real and trustworthy.
How EA Plans to Hit 100 Million Players in Battlefield 6
EA has an incredibly ambitious goal for Battlefield 6, and with it, a plan in place to help make sure the new modern-day multiplayer FPS succeeds.
Battlefield news account Battlefield Bulletin warned fans of the scam on Twitter, sharing a screenshot of the fake invite. According to the post, scammers are sharing the invitations on Instagram, but clicking the link and following the prompts will only result in giving away sensitive Steam information. This is far from the first instance of this kind of scheme. Earlier this year, hackers targeted Elden Ring Nightreign fans by issuing fake invites to that title's February 2025 playtest, ultimately using the fraudulent links to take over victims' Steam accounts and spread similar messages to users' friends.
Scammers Are Sharing Fake Battlefield 6 Playtest Invites on Instagram
In general, it's safest to avoid clicking any such invites on social media, regardless of how authentic they may seem. Always refer back to the official Battlefield or EA websites to learn how the actual playtest process works. Anyone wanting to get their hands on the game can also hold off for a while to wait for the recently confirmed Battlefield 6 open beta, which will likely begin sometime within the next couple of months.
It's easy to see why scammers are targeting Battlefield fans right now. The legitimate playtests going on make the scam more believable, and people are typically more likely to fall for something when their excitement is high enough to outweigh any suspicions they may normally have. Considering that Battlefield 6 has already appeared on almost 500,000 Steam wishlists, it's safe to say fans are excited. More official information will come during EA's big multiplayer reveal tomorrow, July 31, so players can look forward to that to learn what to expect from the game going forward.
