Now that the wait for Battlefield 6 is finally over, a lot of gamers are now primed to spend hours upon hours in action-packed matches. In many ways, Battlefield 6 truly does live up to its promise of being a return to form. From the mind-blowing destruction mechanics to the diverse variety of map sizes, the long-awaited new entry in EA's beloved FPS series is off to an incredibly strong start.

As fun as the game is, though, Battlefield 6 still isn't perfect. Granted, it's nearly impossible for any game to be perfect, but the title unfortunately seems to miss the mark when it comes to one of its newest additions: Manhattan Bridge. Leading up to the game's launch, Manhattan Bridge was a map that intrigued many. It's not a map for everyone, but for those who love the challenge of obstacles and embracing destruction, it's a thrilling time. There is one glaring problem, though. Players don't actually get to fight on Manhattan Bridge.

Battlefield 6's Manhattan Bridge Doesn't Exactly Meet its Potential, at Least When it Comes to Multiplayer

  • Battlefield 6's multiplayer doesn't actually let players go head-to-head on the titular bridge.
  • Campaign players will get to experience the bridge in one mission.
  • Manhattan Bridge is a set piece instead of an actual battleground.

For those who were hoping to take down players on a destroyed Manhattan Bridge overhanging the East River, that is unfortunately only available in Battlefield 6's campaign. In the campaign's fifth mission, "No Sleep," players get a brief moment on the bridge, as you work to thwart Pax Armata's plans, but when it comes to multiplayer, the bridge itself is purely decoration.

While there are plenty of players who enjoy both blazing through Battlefield's campaigns and spending time with multiplayer, there are also those who have zero interest in diving into the story, and this could potentially leave some fans disappointed. Battlefield 6 has its small flaws, but it's a welcome return to strong multiplayer and map selection, and it could have taken Manhattan Bridge to the next level by actually featuring the bridge as a playable area.

Battlefield 6 has already made an estimated $100 million through Steam sales. Within the game's first hour on the platform, the player count had already reached 700,000.

Of course, an open intact bridge may not be the most ideal place for a showdown, but there are plenty of ways that the structure could be given obstacles to increase the challenge. Between piled-up cars, fallen debris, and the potential vehicles would have with destruction, Manhattan Bridge feels like it's missing some major opportunities. The bridge itself hangs over the actual map, reminding one that it's unreachable, even though it looks like it could be a great time. Its presence feels more like a reminder of what players are missing out on instead of being meaningful ornamentation. It's hard for Battlefield maps to satisfy every player, but it feels hard to ignore the shot that wasn't taken with Manhattan Bridge.

Despite its Main Flaw, Manhattan Bridge is Still a Fun Time

As much as I would love for Manhattan Bridge to actually let me play on the bridge it's named after, the map still has plenty to offer. Between the streets of Brooklyn, rooftops, and the ability for vehicles to really cause some chaos, the map can bring forth some great action-packed moments for Battlefield 6 players.

Whichever Battlefield 6 mode one prefers, Manhattan Bridge can be a wild stage to go head-to-head with other players. Yes, it's missing a large piece that could kick up the action a notch, but it's still at least a unique location that shakes up the game's map variety.
