Chaos is a ladder, and if Littlefinger could have seen the Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal, he’d probably be grinning from ear to ear. While the quote came up during the stream’s campaign portion, from the look of the gameplay, it arguably applies more to Battlefield 6’s online component. Destruction, explosions, and non-stop action look to be the name of the game in EA’s upcoming shooter, and that famous Game of Thrones quote can be heard echoing in every ricochet and falling building facade.

Just as Westeros was engulfed in the War of the Five Kings, so too is Battlefield 6 wrapped up in all-out warfare. After its various sizzle reels, streamers got to sit down with the game and show it really plays out, and from the looks of things, it's pretty accurate to the trailers. Obviously, it’s not entirely new, as Battlefield 6 leaks have been rampant. However, this time, it's the finished product on show, and it’s looking more anarchic, bombastic, and committed to a vision than ever. With Battlefield 6’s competition with Call of Duty back on this year, things are looking firmly in Battlefield’s favor for the first time in many years.

Battlefield fans spot fake playtest invites for the upcoming Battlefield 6 as scammers try to capitalize on the rising excitement around the game.

Battlefield 6’s Multiplayer Is Channeling a Chaotic Energy That Hasn’t Been Seen in Years

Intensity is something that fans are expecting from Battlefield 6’s multiplayer, and BF6 looks to be bringing things back to a level of immersion not seen since BF1. DICE has been describing its approach to BF6 with the term “kinesthetic combat,” highlighting a responsiveness that it believes will make BF6 an immersive experience that is more intense than ever before. It’s more than just destruction, gunplay, and immersion as isolated elements; BF6 is about intertwining them.

The game is making several improvements to the core loop of Battlefield aimed at satisfying fans who may have had mixed feelings towards its recent entries, and so far, the fan response is looking very positive indeed. Notably, one of these improvements is the commitment to making BF6 a real sandbox again.

The approach to Battlefield 6’s destruction mechanics has been enhanced in new ways to reshape the battlefield, including a very manual form of breaking down walls and floors with the sledgehammer. In the past, buildings were often little more than simple facades and a few floors, but BF6 is keen to show that its approach to buildings is one of density, complexity, and shifting pathways.

Battlefield 6's Brooklyn environments shine in particular, offering open roads and mixed levels to ensure that no angle is ever safe.

Battlefield 6 Straddles a Line the Series Hasn’t Been Able to Walk in a Long Time

Where BF5 slowed things down, and 2042 was bouncing off the walls with new ideas, BF6’s approach seems to be bringing together the best of both worlds. As a series that has suffered through a couple of identity crises recently, it could serve to be quite a refreshing approach.

Ordinarily, compromise would be quite boring, but right now, Battlefield needs a game that can return to its roots, so to speak, and really hit all the right notes, before it can launch itself off on another tangent like BF1 did. In the run-up to Battlefield 6’s open beta, EA is pulling all the stops to keep the hype for BF6 rolling, and with a reprisal of Firestorm teased, Battlefield’s future looks exciting in its sheer absurdity all over again.
