EA has bad news for fans hoping to play Battlefield 6 on the Switch 2, as the publisher has confirmed it has no plans to release on Nintendo's latest console and will only be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Although Nintendo's newest console has some significant hardware improvements over its predecessor, it looks like EA intends to give fans the best possible experience, as Battlefield 6 will only release on the most powerful platforms available.
Prior to yesterday's massive multiplayer reveal, EA shared the disappointing news that Battlefield 6 will not release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Despite the fact that the last-gen consoles are now well over a decade old, many publishers are insisting on releasing new titles on the ageing hardware. For example, the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 7, will once again be available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So, many fans were left surprised when EA announced that it would not be supporting the last generation consoles for Battlefield 6. Now, just one week later, the studio has confirmed it won't be releasing the shooter on yet another platform.
Battlefield 6 Makes Weird Game of Thrones Reference
Battlefield 6 just dropped a cold single-player campaign teaser, and it quoted an iconic line from HBO’s Game of Thrones series.
Alongside the game's multiplayer reveal on July 31, EA confirmed that Battlefield 6 will only be launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, which means a Nintendo Switch 2 release is currently not on the table. Given that Battlefield 6 looks like it's going to be one of the most graphically intense games on the market, this isn't much of a surprise. But, with that being said, the Nintendo Switch 2 has some big improvements over its predecessor, including a custom Nvidia Tegra T239 CPU, a much more powerful GPU capable of ray tracing and DLSS support, 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and more. Unfortunately, it looks like the hardware upgrades still weren't enough to convince EA to launch Battlefield 6 on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Battlefield 6 Won't Release on Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 has been on the market for almost two months now, and while it won't be receiving Battlefield 6 at launch, there are already some big AAA titles available on the platform. As expected, the Switch 2 launched with some big Nintendo exclusives, such as Mario Kart World and a plethora of upgrades for existing Switch titles, like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, fans were left shocked when the studio announced that games such as Wild Hearts and Cyberpunk 2077 will also be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. While the console does feature some significant hardware upgrades, Cyberpunk 2077 has some incredible visuals that many expected to be impossible to optimize for a handheld device.
While fans won't be going hands-on with Battlefield 6 on the Nintendo Switch 2 anytime soon, there are only days left to go until EA launches the shooter's first open beta. Alongside the recent multiplayer reveal, the publisher confirmed the full list of open beta dates for Battlefield 6. Those looking to jump in straight away will need a special code that can be obtained via Twitch Drops in order to receive early access from August 7 to 8. There will then be two open beta weekends for everyone to jump in (even without a pre-order) from August 9 to 10 and then from August 14 to 17.
