A vocal section of Battlefield 6 fans wants the upcoming shooter to incorporate the Operations mode from Battlefield 1. While the chances of that happening currently appear slim, EA has previously hinted that there's more to Battlefield 6 that it still hasn't shown.
Battlefield 6 is currently in the middle of its first open beta weekend, which is scheduled to conclude on August 11, at 1am PT / 4am ET / 10am CET. The ongoing test launched on August 7, two days following the start of its early access phase, available to EA Play Pro subscribers, Battlefield Labs testers, and people who procured an access key via Twitch Drops. With nearly a week's worth of access on offer, hundreds of thousands of fans have been able to try the shooter extensively, sparking widespread online discussion.
Battlefield 6 Breaks Series Record Halfway Into Open Beta
As the Battlefield 6 open beta enters its truly 'open' phase, EA's first-person shooter sets a new series record by a significant margin.
Battlefield 6 Players Want B1's Operations Mode Back
One example of this trend has recently materialized over on the r/Battlefield subreddit, where some vocal Battlefield 6 players banded together to call for the game to incorporate the Operations mode from Battlefield 1. "Not bringing back Operations is a huge missed opportunity," opined Reddit user DaRealAyman, prompting hundreds of agreeing comments. The widely circulated post amassed thousands of upvotes and has been fixed to the subreddit's front page since the early morning hours ET on August 10.
What Is Battlefield 1's Operations Mode?
Operations is a multiplayer game mode introduced in Battlefield 1, originally released in October 2016. It was designed to simulate the progression of a real war campaign, spanning multiple maps constituting a unified front. In Operations, attacking teams attempted to push the frontline across two or three linked maps, each divided into smaller objective sectors. Meanwhile, defending teams attempted to slow their advance by fighting them off and depleting their reinforcement tickets in the process. A single battalion typically had between 250 and 350 tickets.
Each objective sector in Operations required attackers to capture all control points before proceeding. In the event of a successful attack, the action would move to the next sector, and eventually the next map. Operations thus combined elements of some previous Battlefield modes, particularly Conquest and Rush, though it emphasized large-scale warfare and gradual progression. In June 2018, DICE introduced a condensed take on this mode called Shock Operations, featuring a single map with smaller teams and fewer reinforcement tickets, thus delivering faster-paced matches.
The chances of Battlefield 6 adding new modes in response to fan requests at this stage of development appear slim. However, EA has previously indicated it has yet to reveal all of the game’s content, leaving open the possibility that Operations could already be planned for the upcoming first-person shooter, set to release on October 10.
