After many months of rumors and leaks, publisher EA has finally revealed the free-to-play Battle Royale mode for Battlefield 6, officially titled Battlefield RedSec. The mode will launch alongside Battlefield 6 Season 1 tomorrow, October 28, which is also set to bring a plethora of new content to the shooter, including a new map, mode, vehicle, numerous weapons, and more.
A blog post from EA and DICE earlier this year confirmed that a Battle Royale mode for Battlefield 6 was in development, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect while also announcing that playtests were underway. As select fans were then given the opportunity to go hands-on with the mode via Battlefield Labs, gameplay snippets began making their way online. While EA remained quiet on the mode, rumors from trusted insiders then claimed that the studio intended to shadow-drop Battlefield RedSec on the same day as Season 1, which has now finally been confirmed just one day prior to the update's release.

Battlefield RedSec Battle Royale Release Date Revealed
With Season 1 of Battlefield 6 less than 24 hours away, EA has finally confirmed that a new Battle Royale mode, known officially as Battlefield RedSec, will be launching alongside it. In a new post on Twitter, a short teaser for the mode confirms that Battlefield RedSec will be released on Tuesday, October 28, at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 3 PM GMT. An official launch gameplay trailer is also scheduled to go live on YouTube at the same time as RedSec's release. Those who don't own Battlefield 6 can still check out RedSec, as the mode will be free-to-play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The announcement came shortly after DICE revealed some major changes to Battlefield 6's Battle Royale mode. At the time, it was still a mystery (at least officially) as to when the mode would be released. However, DICE said it had made adjustments based on feedback from Battlefield Labs play sessions. The studio says it has altered the close-range time-to-kill for all weapons "to reward clean positioning and tracking while giving players more time to counter attacks." DICE has also increased armor capacity from 1 to 2, fixed and optimized the world to reduce the number of bugs, and also balanced numerous vehicles.
Fans will finally be able to go hands-on with the mode on October 28, and if Battlefield RedSec is anything like its premium counterpart, it could be about to take the Battle Royale genre by storm. Battlefield 6 is already dominating sales charts, as EA says the latest entry in the series hit all-time highs for franchise sales during the first three days of launch, selling over 7 million copies. While player numbers for PlayStation and Xbox are unknown, Battlefield 6 peaked at over 747,000 concurrent players on Steam at launch, making it one of the most played games on the platform.
