Fans are calling out EA and Dice for a new skin added to Battlefield 6, claiming that a face mask in the game is ripping off Call of Duty. The debut of the beloved FPS franchise's newest game in October saw overwhelming success following its launch, breaking records for EA and Dice. Battlefield 6 sold more than 7 million copies within just three days of the game's launch, easily becoming the fastest-selling game in the series. Battlefield 6 has also given fans plenty of unique ways to customize their in-game characters for its multiplayer matches.

Battlefield 6 includes a plethora of skins for players to choose from, available both through the premium shop and beyond. Battlefield 6 gave out a pair of special skins to players who participated in the game's open beta, for both NATO's Coyote Squad Support and Pax's Fireteam Vedmak Recon. Battlefield 2042's "Road to Battlefield 6" event even gave fans several skins for playing the franchise's previous game in the lead-up to Battlefield 6's release, including some new pistol and character skins. However, fans are now calling out Battlefield 6 for potentially ripping off Call of Duty.

Fans Think Battlefield 6 Ripped Off Call of Duty: Ghosts with New Skin

The Objective Ace skin, available with Battlefield 6's Season 1 Battlefield Pro bundle, has caught the ire of many fans, with many claiming it steals assets from Call of Duty. The fan complaints center heavily around the skull design included on the skin, suggesting that Battlefield 6 stole the design for the mask from Call of Duty: Ghosts. A post shared to the official Battlefield subreddit compares the appearance of the mask side-by-side with the Call of Duty: Ghosts logo, with the mask even featuring a crack in the same position as a split in the Ghosts logo. Many fans have accused Battlefield 6 of using AI to create the design, pointing out other deformities in similar areas of the skull.

Fan allegations about the Battlefield 6 mask being AI-generated would not be the first time the game has seen similar claims. The Winter Offensive update saw similar fan accusations about potentially AI-generated artwork, with Battlefield 6's "Winter Warning" sticker particularly targeted by fans. While EA has not officially confirmed whether the sticker was made with AI, many have pointed to a previous statement from DICE's Rebecka Coutaz, who referred to generative AI's potential as "very seducing." Neither EA nor DICE has made an official statement about the Battlefield 6 mask's similarities to the Call of Duty: Ghosts logo.

Battlefield 6 Has Struggled Since Its Blockbuster Launch

While Battlefield 6 was one of the biggest releases of 2025, the game has seen its fair share of issues since launch. Battlefield 6's player count has largely tapered off since its hype-filled debut, with many disgruntled players leaving for other games. The previously mentioned Winter Offensive patch saw significant criticism from fans, with everything from glitchy menus to noticeable in-game stuttering plaguing Battlefield 6. EA and Dice have since rolled out a patch to fix the stuttering, though the issues likely helped to sour many fans' views of the game.

Battlefield 6 has also faced stiff competition from its peers, with multiple shooters stealing a slice of the game's playerbase. Treyarch launched Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in November, seeing the game peak at just over 100,000 players on Steam during its release weekend. ARC Raiders also made a major splash in the shooter genre following its debut in October, capturing Best Multiplayer Game at the 2025 Game Awards and matching Battlefield 6's peak with over 700,000 players. Battlefield 6's early woes continue after its overwhelming launch success, with the new skin bringing even more controversy to the game.
