Battlefield 6 fans are urging fellow players to "push back" against unrealistic cosmetic items after one leaked skin appears to stray from the game's grounded theme. While the skin itself isn't a huge issue, many Battlefield 6 players are becoming concerned that accepting even the slightest "flashy" or "over the top" skin could be a slippery slope that leads to more and more unrealistic cosmetic items making their way into the shooter.
Ever since Fortnite became the king of collaborations and cosmetic items, fellow live-service titles such as Call of Duty have attempted to follow in the former's footsteps as a way to generate even more revenue. This practice has proven to be successful, as publisher Activision made $2.38 billion in revenue in just 3 months back in 2023. Of course, a large portion of this will come directly from video game sales, but a separate report from 2021 revealed that the studio generated $1.20 billion in revenue from microtransactions in games such as Call of Duty during Q3 2021.
Battlefield 2042 Players Can Now Complete the BF6 Battle Pass Much Quicker, But There's a Catch
EA makes it much easier to progress through the 'Road To Battlefield 6' Battle Pass in Battlefield 2042, but there's a big catch that comes with it.
Battlefield 6 Fans Urge Others to "Push Back" Against Unrealistic Skins
It's clear that in-game microtransactions can be a great source of revenue for studios, but they often come with a huge trade-off. Call of Duty fans have long protested the constant store bundles, event passes, and more, which recently led to Activision and Treyarch making some major changes. Now, in an attempt to ensure Battlefield doesn't follow in Call of Duty's footsteps, players are urging each other to "push back" against any unrealistic cosmetic items. In a new post on Reddit, user SpiritualBacon posted a leaked skin with a neon green coloring and said that "the community needs to push back against skins like these."
The skin itself isn't exactly the wildest thing to ever be added to a first-person shooter, but fellow players appear to agree with the sentiment that it is a "slippery slope" that could lead to even more outlandish and unrealistic cosmetic items in Battlefield 6. Reddit user Knight_baller used Call of Duty as a perfect example of how these scenarios can escalate, saying, "Cosmetics like this are a slippery slope. Look at what’s happened with cod from mw2019 to bo6 they get worse and worse each year." Others, such as Leon_Musks, reminded fellow players that while they can petition against the skins, the real way to get EA's attention is by not purchasing them.
After being absent for four years, the Battlefield series appears to have returned at an interesting moment in time. Since 2021, which was when the last Battlefield game was released, Call of Duty has drawn more and more controversy from players due to the increasing number of unrealistic skins and cosmetic items. Black Ops 6 took things to a whole new level, with constant collaborations and outlandish skins, leading fans to finally say, 'Enough is enough.'
In response to the backlash, Treyarch Studios reverted the controversial Carry Forward feature for Black Ops 7, which would have allowed Black Ops 6 players to transfer all of their existing cosmetic items to the next entry. A statement from the studio also admitted that it had "drifted" from what made Call of Duty unique and promised that Black Ops 7 will feel "authentic" to Call of Duty and its setting.
