The Battlefield games are consistently outdone by Call of Duty sales-wise, but Battlefield 6 may be the first time that EA's FPS franchise beats CoD. Battlefield 6 has been enjoying quite a bit of momentum ever since the game's open beta tests, and it has now launched to strong sales and positive review scores.
Battlefield 6 has quickly become one of the most popular Battlefield games of all time. It's completely erased the damage done by the disastrous Battlefield 2042, and while it's not perfect, it seems many believe that it has successfully taken the franchise back to the glory days of games like Battlefield 3. Everything seems to be going in Battlefield 6's favor, and it's to the point where the game may actually stand a realistic shot at out-selling Call of Duty this year.
What is the Max Level in Battlefield 6?
For those wondering if Battlefield 6 has a max level, this guide will answer all and show players what the last rewards are.
Battlefield 6 is Off to an Incredible Start
Battlefield 6 hit the ground running, earning an 84 overall review score (slightly higher than Black Ops 6's 83 and comfortably ahead many other recent CoD games) and immediately blowing up on Steam. It's been estimated that Battlefield 6 made $100 million in Steam pre-orders alone, with an all-time peak of over 656,000 on Valve's platform.
We don't have exact Battlefield 6 sales numbers, but the Steam concurrent player count is clear evidence that the game has been a massive success on PC. Battlefield 6 has also dominated PlayStation and Xbox sales charts, so it's highly likely that the game has enjoyed similar success on console. Combine this with the fact that Battlefield 6 has a full month head-start on Black Ops 7, and it puts the game in a very strong position.
Battlefield 6 Has Aggressive Post-Launch Plans
No one can really compete with Call of Duty when it comes to post-launch support, but Battlefield 6 is doing more than basically any other CoD competitor ever has. Battlefield 6 Season 1 starts October 28 with a new map, new vehicle, new weapons, and more, with even more content coming on November 18. Then, the Ice Lock limited-time event and Ice Climbing Axe melee weapon are on deck for December 9. As long as Battlefield 6 keeps putting out new content, it stands a shot at keeping at least some players from jumping ship to Black Ops 7.
Of course, there's also the battle royale to consider. The Battlefield 6 battle royale is highly-anticipated by genre fans, but is currently without a release date. Some have claimed that the Battlefield 6 BR is going to drop at the end of October, while others believe it's not coming until 2026. Regardless, the Battlefield 6 battle royale could be a serious shot in the arm that keeps the game's momentum going even stronger, not unlike what Warzone did for the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot.
Game Pass Could Be CoD's Downfall
Perhaps the biggest thing working in favor of Battlefield 6 potentially beating Call of Duty in sales this year is that Black Ops 7 is going to release day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. A recent report by Bloomberg claimed that Black Ops 6 being a day one Xbox Game Pass game cost $300 million in potential sales on PC and Xbox. One has to imagine that the same will be true for Black Ops 7. After all, why pay $70 for Black Ops 7 when you can just pay $30 for an Ultimate subscription and play the game in its entirety?

The Case for Black Ops 7 Beating Battlefield 6
The big advantage Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has over Battlefield 6 is the fact that it is releasing on more platforms. Battlefield 6 is only available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, while Black Ops 7 is on all of those systems plus PS4 and Xbox One. The PS4 install base especially is a massive one, and millions of gamers still have not upgraded to Sony's latest console. This alone should give Black Ops 7 a serious advantage over BF6, but it's not the only reason why Call of Duty may very well still become the best-selling game release of 2025.
Whether it's due to the increased competition from Battlefield 6 or other factors, Activision, Treyarch, and Raven Software are making fan-requested changes that could bring back lapsed fans. The highly controversial skill-based matchmaking is being turned down so that skill is a minimal factor, and persistent lobbies are being brought back. Fans have been asking for these changes for years, and so it's great to see Black Ops 7 finally delivering. Now, time will tell how much of an impact these changes actually have on the public perception of the game, but the announcements have been met with a positive reaction online.
Never Bet Against Call of Duty
Call of Duty is the best-selling new game release almost every year for a reason. While some entries in the franchise are better-received than others, Activision knows how to sell Call of Duty games, and Black Ops 7 will almost certainly be one of the year's most successful games when it's all said and done. Battlefield 6 may stand a realistic shot at knocking CoD off the mountaintop, but Black Ops 7 is still going to be tough to beat. Once the dust settles, it will be very interesting to see if Black Ops 7 maintains Call of Duty's streak of trouncing Battlefield, or if Battlefield 6 makes history by finally beating CoD.
