As Battlefield 6 players get more time with the game, a clearer meta is beginning to form. Battlefield 6’s Assault class can shine by pairing the powerful B36A4 Assault Rifle with the M87A1 Shotgun, while virtually any class can benefit from leveling up the M4A1 Carbine due to its usefulness in any situation. Really, it’s hard to find truly bad guns in Battlefield 6, as skilled players can thrive with everything from the close-range powerhouse that is the SGX SMG to the bulky M60 LMG. However, it’s for this reason that one gun stands out among the rest, as it’s arguably the only Battlefield 6 weapon that’s truly unusable: the LMR27 DMR. If players want to do well in BF6, using any other gun is recommended, as the path to making the LMR even somewhat decent is not an easy one.

The DMR category is intended to be the middle ground between Battlefield 6’s Sniper Rifles and Assault Rifles, as these semi-auto weapons allow players to fight back against snipers without completely ruining their chances of winning a close-range gunfight. With Battlefield 6 Season 1 addressing the criticism about a lack of large maps, there’s a good chance that DMRs will become more valuable and climb up the FPS game’s meta since they shine in bigger arenas. Naturally, it should make perfect sense for players to start leveling up their DMRs now to be ready for this potential shift in the game’s best gear. However, picking up the LMR27 and trying to unlock attachments for it is a torturous endeavor, meaning players are better off using the M39 EMR, SVK-8.6, or SVDM.

Why Battlefield 6’s LMR27 is The Worst Gun in the Game By Far

As is usually the case with shooters, one of the definitive traits of a strong weapon is its time-to-kill, and the LMR27 is abysmal in this regard due to its shockingly low damage per shot. Each bullet only deals 27 damage, which is bad enough, as it means that players need to land four shots with the gun to secure a kill. One would think that headshots would help compensate for this problem, but for some reason, the LMR27 only has a 1.34x headshot multiplayer. This means that each headshot deals only 36 damage, essentially punishing players for being accurate. For a semi-auto weapon, even a fast-firing one like the LMR, this is absurd. By the time a BF6 Recon who is using a proper Sniper 150m away gets hit in the head twice, they’ll be back in cover, leaving users of this DMR out of luck.

Considering how other weapons in the DMR category — such as the M39 EMR — have a higher headshot multiplier, it’s surprising how weak BF Studios has made the LMR27.

If that wasn’t enough, the LMR27 also has a brutally low ammo count of 10 shots in the default magazine, and when considering its high rate of fire, players will be reloading nonstop. The LMR27 is so bad that players have taken to social media platforms like Reddit to tear it apart, with many pointing out that players would be better off tap-firing a strong Carbine like the M4A1 than they would using this gun. In its default state, it feels so bad that it resembles other video game guns that were made deliberately bad to troll a game’s community. The SMR from Black Ops 2 comes to mind, as the gun deliberately wouldn't hit where the crossover is pointed and requires a dozen shots to the head to kill in the mid-rounds of CoD Zombies. When Pack-a-Punched in that mode, it was renamed to the SMIL3R, which has led the community to think its inaccuracy and low damage were intentional. Given its similar visual design of the LMR27 and its poor damage, it’s hard not to think of this gag weapon 13 years later.

Attachments Can Save The LMR27, But It’s Not Worth the Hassle

To be fair to the LMR27, it’s no SMR, as at least it’s a long-range laser. The gun is extremely accurate since DMRs do not have severe damage fall-off like other weapons, and if players boost the mag size and headshot damage, then the gun can actually be quite decent.

An ideal Battlefield 6 loadout for the LMR27 is as follows:

  • Scope: SDO 3.50X (10 points)
  • Optic Accessory: Canted Iron Sights (5 points)
  • Ammunition: Synthetic Tip (30 points)
  • Magazine: 20Rnd Magazine (45 points)
  • Barrel: 21.5” Factory (10 points)

The issue with this approach is that leveling up weapons takes an extremely long time, even with some of Battlefield 6’s XP tokens equipped. Because of that, suffering to unlock attachments like the 15 round mag (level 14) and 20 round mag (level 28) feels like a tremendous waste of time. The same goes for the headshot damage-increasing Synthetic Tip attachment, which doesn’t unlock until level 38 and still only results in 47 headshot damage per shot — meaning the weapon is still a 3-shot headshot unless the target is slightly weakened.

Instead of having a terrible time using the gun for its first dozen levels, it makes more sense to pick up a Battlefield weapon that is solid from the start and only becomes better with time. For players who want to test their own patience, max out every gun, or genuinely enjoy the idea of making a weak weapon into something viable, the above loadout is something to chase. For everyone else, it’s better to just use literally any other gun, as the uphill battle to make the LMR27 gun worthwhile is a fight that shouldn’t have to be fought in the first place.
