Battlefield fans have been waiting over a decade for any sort of news on a potential Bad Company 3 announcement, though a recent post from David Goldfarb may have put those hopes to bed. The Bad Company series continues to one that is held in reverance by Battlefield fans. Even with EA seemingly uninterested in returning to the series, many fans continue to hold out hope that it could happen at some point down the road.
For many longtime Battlefield fans, the Bad Company series of games represent some of the best aspects of the franchise. In fact, Bad Company 2 reached new heights for the franchise when it launched back in 2010, receiving high praise from both critics and fans as it built on top of its predecessor. The game was so well received that fans expected to see some sort of follow-up at some point, though it has yet to happen. Part of the reason why a sequel was anticipated was due to a major cliffhanger in the game's campaign, though thanks to a former developer, fans now have a bit more context around that part of the game.
Battlefield 6 Has Reached a Concerning Milestone
Battlefield 6 hits a unfortunate new milestone that continues a very concerning trend for the popular online first person shooter.
David Goldfarb Reveals Original Story Plans For Battlefield: Bad Company 3
Former Battlefield developer and Bad Company 2’s lead designer and writer, David Goldfarb, responded to a fan online who posted a clip of the ending to the game, wondering why nothing ever came about from that scene. After seemingly saving the day, the members of "Bad Company" are recruited by General Braidwood to push back against a Russian invasion happening in Alaska. The scene fades to a graphic of the Russian army seemingly sweeping down across North America, strongly hinting that a Bad Company 3 would focus on an alternate reality version of the US forces attempting to liberate occupied Alaska.
Upon seeing the clip, Goldfarb admitted that he wasn't sure why he included that ending scene, though at the time, it made sense to him. UIltimately, Goldfarb's goal was to develop the next game with an occupied Alaska, having players work to liberate it from the Russian forces. As fans know, that didn't actually come to pass, with EA and DICE moving forward with Battlefield 3, another well-received game in the franchise, though one which had no ties to the previous Bad Company games whatsoever.
This isn't the first time David Goldfarb has revealed behind-the-scenes stories regarding his former games, most commonly with regard to the Battlefield franchise. In 2025, Goldfarb took to social media to again share some behind-the-scenes details from Battlefield 3, discovering some notes regarding two cut campaign missions that would have focused on a jet pilot named Hawkins being shot down and captured. A second mission would have shown how she was able to meet up with Dimitri "Dima" Mayakovsky, a major character from the game's story.
Ultimately, this doesn't mean a potential Bad Company game couldn't eventually launch, though it seems unlikely that it would continue in the direction that Goldfarb originally set things up. With the amount of time that has already passed and the unwillingness that EA has displayed in returning to the Bad Company franchise, it seems fans are more likely to see games like Battlefield 6, which take inspiration from past games like Battlefield 3. It's not connective to any previous game in the franchise, but evokes a bit of nostalgia by bringing back fan favorite mechanics and features.
