Battlefield RedSec is Battlefield’s very own free-to-play Battle Royale experience, throwing players into intense duo or squad-based action. Featuring a massive open map with 100 players, a closing Firestorm, and a range of unique mechanics, those looking for a new free game to dive into won’t be disappointed.
Like any Battle Royale, Battlefield RedSec not only builds on the classic formula but also reinvents it, adding its own signature Battlefield flair to the mix. This will require some players to adapt to its unique gameplay. Here are some tips and tricks to help you get better in Battlefield RedSec.
More Battlefield 6 Players Finished the Campaign Than You’d Think
Despite the main focus being on online multiplayer, a surprising number of players have completed the Battlefield 6 campaign.
Choose The Optimum Drop Location
One of the biggest mistakes some players make is not choosing the optimal drop location at the start of their Battle Royale match. Right off the bat, there isn’t necessarily a single best location to drop in Battlefield RedSec. However, there is an optimal way to make sure players start their game off right by choosing a location based on their flight path.
Unlike other Battle Royale titles, players in Battlefield RedSec don’t all drop from a single point. Instead, they are divided among a series of helicopters flying beside each other at the start of the game. Because of this, some players will be closer to a POI than others, meaning that if you jump from a helicopter that’s farther away, those who are closer will likely reach it first.
Instead, choose POIs that are relatively close to your helicopter’s flight path to increase your chances of starting strong. POIs within about 1,200 meters of your helicopter’s path are usually the best and easiest to drop straight down onto. A good practice is to ping your desired location beforehand so you know exactly when to deploy.
Diversify Your Classes
Battlefield RedSec is definitely one of the more unique Battle Royale games out there, thanks to its inclusion of the class system from Battlefield 6, which players can choose from right away. While many players may find themselves defaulting to the Assault Class, it’s mostly because they gain the ability to replate armor 33% faster once they’ve earned enough Training Path XP.
However, to function better as a team, it’s often best to diversify your class roles. For instance, teams can benefit from having a Support player thanks to their ability to resupply ammunition with their Supply Bag, carry extra armor plates for teammates, and revive or drag downed players more quickly.
Engineers are a must-have for every team, as they come equipped with a Rocket Launcher by default for combating vehicles, and they can open Locked Safes using their trusty Repair Tool. Recon may often take a back seat, but in Squads, having a Recon player can make a big difference thanks to their ability to spot enemies while aiming, as well as their access to the Motion Sensor and Recon Drone, both great for gathering intel or pulling off sneaky plays.
In short, team members should not all default to one or two classes, as doing so means missing out on key benefits that can turn the tide of a match.
Customize Your Sidearm For Success
At the start of the game, upon choosing your Class, players can choose and customise their Sidearm, which will be brought with them and serve as the very first weapon they can wield. With that being said, be sure to choose the right Sidearm for you and customize it with the right attachments that suit your playstyle.
Right off the bat, the M44 is easily the best Sidearm to opt for, as it packs the most punch out of all the Secondary options, and boasts excellent range. However, if you have not unlocked it quite yet, other Sidearms like the P18 are still solid options. When customising your Sidearms, be sure to opt for attachments that reduce recoil, increase magazine size, boost damage range, and even opt for Hollow Point Ammunition for increased headshot damage.
Equipping Your Knife Boosts Movement Speed
One of the major criticisms some players may have is the overall pace of Battlefield RedSec, which is noticeably slower than other Battle Royale titles like Call of Duty: Warzone or Fortnite. However, those looking to boost their movement speed can do so with a simple trick. Equipping a Combat Knife or Hunting Knife will increase your sprinting speed, making it a good habit to run with your knife out when out of combat to get from point A to point B faster on foot.
Avoid Plating In Combat
One thing that players may notice in Battlefield RedSec is just how long it takes to replate armor. In RedSec, it takes around three seconds to apply a single armor plate and about six seconds to fully replate. While the Infantry Class can replate 33% faster once leveled up along its training path, players should still be mindful of when they choose to replenish their armor.
For example, replating during combat is generally not advisable unless your teammates can cover you while you do so. When you need to quickly pop a plate, try disengaging from the fight and focus on equipping a single plate first before deciding if it’s safe to apply another.
On the flip side, when damaging an opponent’s plates, make sure to pressure them if they try to disengage while alone or if their teammates are out of action. Doing so may allow you to catch them mid-replate, putting them at a major disadvantage.
Carry Counters For Vehicles
One of the hardest things that players may be dealing with in RedSec is vehicles, particularly Tanks and IFVs. While these vehicles often take a bit of work and luck to obtain, some players may be fortunate enough to open a Vehicle Trailer early in the game and secure one. With that being said, it’s best to know how to deal with them.
Engineers are by far the best class for taking on vehicles, as they spawn by default with an aim-guided launcher that can be upgraded to guided once players level up their training path. However, other classes can also get their hands on extra gear for countering vehicles from Anti-Vehicle Gear Drops and Class Crates opened by Engineers, which grant additional launchers along with other tools like Anti-Vehicle Mines.
When using a free-fire launcher, be sure to aim for the rear, top, or sides of Tanks and IFVs to deal increased damage. Anti-Vehicle Mines are best placed in areas where ground vehicles least expect them, such as on main roads with poor visibility. As for air vehicles, opt for lock-on launchers found in Anti-Vehicle Gear Drops and crates to take them down, though standard bullet weapons can still make a dent if enough fire is focused.
Practice Your Skills in Gauntlet
Jumping into RedSec Battle Royale and testing your skills is not a bad idea by any means, as players will find themselves up against a mix of skilled and casual players alike. However, for those who want to practice in a respawn game mode and do not have access to Battlefield 6, Gauntlet is by far the next best thing.
Gauntlet pits squads against each other on sections of the Fort Lyndon map, with their loadouts ready right from the start. Teams compete in multiple rounds, each with different objectives, and are knocked out if they fail to qualify for the next round. Outside of being an excellent mode, the intense PvP action combined with the ability to respawn (except in specific objectives where respawns are disabled) makes it a great way to practice your gunplay, test out new weapon builds, and get familiar with RedSec’s unique mechanics.
Don't Fear The Firestorm
The Firestorm in Battlefield RedSec is without a doubt the deadliest closing circle in any Battle Royale before it, instantly eliminating any players caught in its clutches. While this is bound to have some players scrambling to stay away from it, players don’t actually have to fear the Firestorm too much.
The Firestorm is surprisingly slow, and while it’s definitely good practice to avoid getting too close, players can easily play near the edge of the circle and keep ahead of it without much trouble. This makes fighting close to the Firestorm, grabbing redeploys, and looting around the outskirts of the map a viable strategy. Just make sure not to let the Firestorm touch you, or it’ll be a quick trip back to the lobby.
Shakedown Down Enemies To Reveal Their Teammates
Finding yourself in a situation where you manage to down most of the enemy team, but one always slips away? You can actually Shakedown downed players to reveal the location of their teammates. Simply approach a downed enemy and hold the melee button, just as you would when performing a regular Takedown. Doing so will trigger a unique animation and, once complete, the remaining squadmates’ locations will be highlighted for a short time.
Use Destruction To Your Advantage
One of the most unique aspects of Battlefield RedSec is its destruction, allowing players to destroy nearly any structure in the game. This opens up a wide range of opportunities to outplay opponents. In Battlefield RedSec, be sure to use explosives like rocket launchers to blast open walls for new entry points into buildings or to remove enemy cover.
Call-in gadgets such as Air Strikes can also tear through most structures, so don’t hesitate to use them to flush enemies out of buildings or eliminate hiding players entirely.
