Wuchang Fallen Feathers features a ton of boss fights, some much easier to manage while others are nail-bitingly hard. The boss fight with Commander Honglan falls in the latter category, as you'll encounter her at the end of chapter one. She's one of the toughest bosses in the game and will give players a tough time if they go into the fight unprepared. Here's everything you need to know about Commander Honglan, including her attacks and strategy to beat her.
How to Beat Master Raider - Man-Eating Dhutanga in Wuchang Fallen Feathers
Here's how to beat the first major boss in Worship's Rise that players will encounter, Master Raider - Man-Eating Dhutanga in Wuchang Fallen Feathers.
How to Beat Commander Honglan in Wuchang Fallen Feathers
Players will encounter Commander Honglan in the finale of chapter one, inside the Tang Emperor's Palace area in Wuchang Fallen Feathers. After draining the water from the Lotus Pond, players will be able to drop into it to retrieve a blade from the stone. However, it is then that they'll be attacked by Commander Honglan.
Commander Honglan is a fierce warrior who's fast on her feet and primarily uses her blade to slash at Wuchang. It's recommended to use an armor set that mainly offers physical resistance, as you won't have to worry about any status affliction protection, e.g., Ming Armor.
For weapons, it's highly recommended to use the Steampowered Spear, as its Steam Chain (LB/L1) attack (on two Skyborn Might charges) launches a fiery spin that will disrupt Commander Honglan's moves. Alternatively, you could use a good Longsword with deflect and parry abilities to shield yourself from the slashes launched by the boss.
Phase One
Commander Honglan will use the following attacks during phase one of the boss fight. Here are all of them listed.
- Sword Lunge: Commander Honglan will start the battle by lunging at the players with her sword, covering a medium to high distance in an instant. The animation for this is quite explicit, so you'll need to dodge out of her way quickly.
- Melee Combo: The boss will sheathe her sword and launch a flurry of punches and kicks that will hone in on the players. It's recommended to dodge on the sides, instead of back to get some breathing room. Once this combo is over, you'll need to launch attacks to get damage in.
- Blade Throw: Commander Honglan will randomly do a backflip and launch a five-blade projectile towards players. This is a good opportunity to dodge at the last minute to gain Skyborn Might. It'll also allow players to get some distance from the boss and use any healing or refresh Tempering.
Make sure to play a little aggressively during her first phase to get an opportunity to land an Obliterate Strike on the boss. This will help you progress through the battle much quicker, saving your resources for the tougher second phase.
During the first phase, your objective should be to learn when Commander Honglan attacks stop, as she pauses for a second, giving players ample opening for attacks. At this moment, you'll need to use the Steam Chain attack (Steampowered Spear), followed by a regular attack to dish out some decent damage to the boss. Make sure to conserve at least three healing flasks for the second phase, as it'll be a lot tougher.
Phase Two
The second phase begins when Commander Honglan's health falls below 50%. This is a much tougher phase that will make the boss even more agile, and introduce new attacks into the battle.
- Water Slashes: This is a long-range projectile attack that will send water-infused slashes towards players. These slashes can be vertical, diagonal, or horizontal. So, you'll need to dodge accordingly to avoid taking massive damage.
- Spinning Blades Combo: Commander Honglan will launch a short-range lunge at players, which will be followed by a spinning blades attack that will hone in on players. This attack is a bit tougher to dodge as she'll close the gap between players quickly. However, if you manage to dodge the initial attacks, make sure to be ready for a water slash at the end of the combo.
Commander Honglan will retain most of her moveset from the first phase, with a few new attacks that are mentioned below. The strategy to beat her remains the same. However, you'll consume a lot more stamina dodging her water-based projectile attacks this time around. Keep an eye on stamina and make sure to conserve some for attacks when you eventually get an opening.
If you launch enough attacks in quick succession, you'll get an opportunity to pull off an Obliterate attack, which will remove a massive chunk of health from her. However, being greedy and going full-throttle on the offensive can send you back to the shrine quickly. Make sure to balance the offensive and defensive strategies to end the battle in your favor.
