In the Story Mode for Need for Speed Unbound, players assemble a selection of cars to race in a wide range of events. By the time they get to the cars in the A+ tier, they should be pretty familiar with the game. At this point in Need for Speed Unbound, players are finding their preference between Drift and Grip turns, perfecting their techniques for outrunning cops, and learning how to select the right car for each of the many different race types.
There are some beautiful vehicles in the A+ tier. Many of them are competitive and open to customization. However, unlike the best of the A tier, there’s one car that clearly pulls ahead of the pack: The Stingray Corvette. A couple other cars stand out as well, but none so much as the Stingray.
Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2020
| Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2020 Class: A+ (261) Price: $141,500 | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Top Speed | 0 - 60 time | 1/4 mile time | Handling | Drivetrain |
| 184 | 2.9 | 11.2 | Neutral | RWD |
The Stingray is clearly the best of the A+ tier. It gets from zero to 60 in just 2.9 seconds, and it has a strong top speed. It’s easy to drive and incredibly agile, which makes it great for running from the cops. In Street Race, Hard Eight, and Corner King events, this car effortlessly blows past the competition. Takeovers and Drift events aren’t great for it, but it can perform. Picking this car for the A+ qualifier is like putting it on Easy Mode. The only place it can be outdone is in Speed Races, where cars with a higher top speed or a bigger boost can eventually catch up to it.
Best Upgrades & Tuning for the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2020
The Stingray performs well with any tuning. It can Drift or Grip equally well. If players prefer one over the other, they should tune it that way. However, with the slider in the middle, the Stingray is able to handle both Grip and Drift turns. The turns aren’t quite as simple if the tuning isn’t specialized, but the Stingray makes up for it with its very forgiving steering.

Porsche Panamera Turbo 2017
| Porsche Panamera Turbo 2017 Class: A+ (259) Price: $137,500 | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Top Speed | 0 - 60 time | 1/4 mile time | Handling | Drivetrain |
| 193 | 3.4 | 11.7 | 20% Grip | AWD |
The Panamera–surprisingly–outperforms the other Porsches in the A+ tier in both top speed and acceleration. In testing, the Panamera beat the Aston Martin DB11 in average speed. Although it has a lower top speed, it can achieve and maintain a high speed faster than the DB11, which is useful in every race type.
The Panamera requires some fine-tuning, but it can handle almost any race type it’s tuned for. Check out the next section for two unique builds that can cover most races. Keep in mind though that this is definitely a Grip-focused car. The Panamera isn’t great for Drift or Takeover events where all the Drift-focused cars tend to do better.
Best Upgrades & Tuning for the Porsche Panamera Turbo 2017
Fine-tuning the Porsche is a little tricky. There are two best ways to do it depending on race type. It can either be a great drag racer or incredibly versatile with just a few modifications:
- Top Speed: In a straight Speed race, it’s best to set the Downforce a little low to make a build that focuses on top speed. The Panamera sings in these road races; it truly wins by a mile. However, these races are few and far between.
- Boost: For any other race type, it’s best to set the Downforce high to take advantage of much improved cornering. This will also make room for an improved Nitrous can and much-needed Brakes. With a generous use of Nitrous, this build can achieve a higher average speed than the Top Speed build could in anything other than a Speed race. Don't rely on nitrous too much, but use it to get up to speed, then focus on staying on track.

Lamborghini Countach 1988
| Lamborghini Countach 1988 Class: A+ (224) Price: $216,500 | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Top Speed | 0 - 60 time | 1/4 mile time | Handling | Drivetrain |
| 183 | 4.4 | 12.6 | 20% Drift | RWD |
Aside from the satisfaction of buying back a starter car, players can look forward to an infinitely versatile automobile when picking up the Countach. After a few modifications, it has incredible top speed, acceleration, control, and agility. It’s a strong choice for the Qualifier. Only the Stingray outdoes it at its best. It does have a tendency to spin out on the launch, but a perfect launch will fix that.
The Countach is great for any race. It’s also useful for Freeroam events. It has a wide but controllable drift that it can lean into even at low speeds. Getting away from cops is a breeze, too, thanks to its quick acceleration. It can be outperformed in Speed or Drift-heavy races by more specialized cars, but the Countach is a solid choice for any race regardless.
Best Upgrades & Tuning for the Lamborghini Countach 1988
The Countach is a pleasure to drive, and it looks great surrounded by all the flashy effects Unbound introduced. The handling definitely takes some getting used to, but clever tuning can help with that. It’s helpful to use the Action Camera angle too.
Players should take some time to find the right place on the Drift tuning bar for them. 50% is a good place to start, but it can take some experimentation to find the most comfortable handling profile. Increasing the Downforce can help get a tighter turn, but try to keep it as low as possible to maintain a competitive top speed.
