Once a PlayStation exclusive franchise, Ratchet and Clank made its way to a wider audience with the PC release of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on July 26, 2023. Following the story of fan-favorite Ratchet and his sidekick Clank, players will venture through a new narrative in the age-old franchise that sees the introduction of another Lombax for the first time in the franchise's history.
One of the side projects that players can focus their attention on in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is the collection of armor sets. Each one requires the acquisition of a helmet, torso, and leg armor from pocket dimensions throughout the game. Some are for cosmetic purposes; however, there are a few that can grant players an advantage while they traverse the galaxy. With eight different stat-boosting armor choices, here's how they rank against one another.
8 Robot Space Pirate
Aligning itself with some of the enemies that plague the Lombaxes' journey, the Robot Space Pirate makes reference to the space pirates that first appear in Ratchet and Clank: Tools Of Destruction, and make an appearance in this game as well. Fortunately for Ratchet and Rivet, this armor set helps to overcome the pirate threat.
Completing the Robot Space Pirate set will decrease the effectiveness of space pirate attacks by 20%. While this boost is specific to one type of enemy, it will certainly be a welcome help, especially for those in Challenge Mode.
7 Q-Force
As a member of Captain Qwark's Q-Force, Ratchet and Rivet wear the green of the famous hero from the franchise. With it comes a combat boost against a particular type of enemy. While Qwark may not have been the most consistent ally in the series, he certainly is committed to his signature green color.
Players wearing the Q-Force armor receive a 20% protection boost against Goons-4-Less enemies. This is particularly useful as many of the Goons-4-Less enemies use jetpacks, making them a little harder to reach.
6 Wasteland Gear
With an ominous white symbol painted on its helm, the Wasteland Gear armor is one of the more menacing options for Ratchet or Rivet to don and will surely be intimidating for any foes before them. Given the perk associated with this set, the local wildlife may think twice before engaging with the Lombaxes.
The Wasteland Gear armor set is specifically tailored to deal with a planet's indigenous creatures. With this complete set, players will be less affected by creature attacks, with their offense being dulled by 20%. While indigenous creatures are only on a select number of planets, this perk will certainly boost survival chances.
5 Robot Disguise
Rivet's disguise from the game's early scenes is available to be worn by Rivet and Ratchet as playable armor, with an added bonus. Those donning this armor will get an advantage over Dr. Nefarious' henchmen, which will undoubtedly infuriate the cyborg antagonist.
With a completed Robot Disguise, players will be rewarded with protection from 20% of the damage received from Nefarious' enemies. This will become particularly useful as the heroes edge closer to going face-to-face with their long-time nemesis.
4 Galactic Ranger
The original Ratchet and Clank game saw a remake in 2016, and with it came a slight turn in narrative that saw Ratchet join the Galactic Rangers. Throwing back to the revisit of the original classic, the armor Ratchet first dons in the game makes another appearance in Rift Apart.
For those who enjoy using Ratchet's wrench or Rivet's hammer, this armor will be a favorite. Once complete, players receive a handy 20% damage bonus with all melee attacks, making the wrench and hammer far more effective.
3 Captain Starshield
One of the more vague references in the Ratchet and Clank series, the Captain Starshield armor pays tribute to its namesake, who appeared for about ten seconds at the beginning of the 2005 title Ratchet: Deadlocked. While he didn't play much of a role in the game, his armor is certainly worth revisiting.
Despite the obscurity of the reference, the Captain Starshield armor boasts one of the most useful perks in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Those who equip this armor set will be rewarded with a 20% boost on all XP earned.
2 Lombax Praetorian
An armor set fit for only the elite combat specialists, the Lombax Praetorian set naturally fits like a glove on Ratchet and Rivet. With all components of this suit equipped, players will have a much easier time collecting one of the game's most precious resources.
The Lombax Praetorian armor grants players a 20% boost in the amount of Raritanium they can collect. This is a very useful perk as Raritanium, as the name implies, is tough to come by. Additionally, this will help players upgrade their weapons faster, as Raritanium is used to purchase improvements for their guns.
1 Carbonox Advanced
Those with the combat and survival skills worthy of conquering the arena challenges on the Scarstu Debris Field will be rewarded handsomely with the Carbonox Advanced armor. Paying tribute to one of the earliest armor sets in the Ratchet and Clank series, this armor has arguably the best perk in the game, particularly for those who opt to test themselves in Challenge Mode.
The Carbonox Advanced armor grants the wearer an increase in the number of bolts collected by a staggering 20%. This is the perfect armor for those looking to upgrade their weapons to their Omega variants and bring their firearms and explosives to their deadly peak.
