Best Aspects and Blessings in Abyssus

Aspects give players in Abyssus a major edge against the enemies they find in the briny depths, and they are the main source of power for every diver. Weapons and abilities can only do so much damage, but with the right Aspects and Blessings, anyone will be able to bulldoze their way through pretty much everything the game throws at them.

With that being said, using sub-optimal Aspects with less-than-ideal Blessings can easily end a run in Abyssus. In this guide, we'll be going over each of the Aspects and Blessings in the game to help you find which ones are the best for your playstyle.

What Are Aspects in Abyssus?

You can get Aspects by interacting with Blessing Altars, which appear regularly at the end of rooms. Players can equip an Aspect for each of their weapon's fire modes as well as their chosen ability, and once they do, they'll get whatever special effect their selected Aspect provides.

Aspects can be further upgraded by selecting Blessings. If you pick an Aspect that you already have at a Blessing Altar, you'll be able to pick between a number of different Blessings for that specific Aspect. For example, the Empowering Flames Blessing for the Aspect of Fire causes targets to take more damage from burn ticks the longer they are burning.

Aspects/Blessings can also be bought from the merchant, provided players spot them in the open or unlock their store using a key in Abyssus.

After players get a third and sixth Blessing from the same Aspect, they will get a Major Blessing, which is much stronger than Minor Blessings.

Aspect of Fire

The Aspect of Fire does two things: it causes enemies to burn, and if a burning enemy takes damage from any source, they have a chance to Flare, causing them to take an additional burst of damage. This is a very powerful DPS Aspect that's excellent against bosses, but with the right Blessings, it can also be upgraded to be effective against big groups.

Stacking Fire Blessings increases the strength of your Status Effects.

Stacking Flames: Fire can now stack, dealing more damage over time.
Linked Flames: When you cause a target to Flare, all other burning targets also Flare.
Fanning Flames: Enemies take more damage from Flare every time they Flare.
Weakening Flames: Weakspot damage against burning enemies is increased.
Critical Flames: Weakspot chance to Flare is increased.

Aspect of Lightning

This Aspect causes your hits to cause Chain Lightning to arc between enemies. It deals decent upfront damage, but its main draw is its AOE potential — Aspect of Lightning allows weapons like the Brine Revolver to clear an entire room in just a couple of shots. Most Lightning Blessings further improve its AOE damage, but there are also some that increase your power against single targets.

Every Lightning Blessing increases your chance to inflict Critical Hits, allowing you to deal extra damage to enemies regardless of where you hit them.

Thunder Strike: Chain Lightning has a chance to call down lightning bolts on targets.
Static Concussion: Lightning has a chance to stun enemies.
Static Zone: Dealing damage has a chance to create a Static Zone under your feet that increases your Critical damage.
Static Repetition: Critical hits bounce an extra time and can bounce back to previous targets.

Aspect of Wind

Much like the first two, Aspect of Wind is a damage-oriented Aspect that mainly deals AOE damage. It gives your hits a chance to inflict Windburst, which is basically an explosion that damages everything in its range. Windburst deals more damage than Chain Lightning, but it has a lower range by default.

Wind Blessings expand the size of any attack or ability you have that deals AOE damage. This is great for builds that use Grenade or the Tesla Rifle's secondary fire modes.

Whirling Winds: Windburst has a chance to pull enemies in towards itself.
Culling Winds: Windburst deals more damage to enemies the lower their health is.
Eye of the Storm: Enemies take more damage from Windburst the closer they are to its center.
Roaring Winds: Windburst has a chance to occur twice.

Aspect of Fortune

If you don't want to rely on items provided by the store in Abyssus, then the Aspect of Fortune is the perfect complement to your build. This makes your attacks cause Goldbursts, which deal damage based on how much Gold you have. Aspect of Fortune is especially good on weapons with high rates of fire, like the Engine Rifle and Tesla Rifle. It is also very strong with Turret/Tentacle builds.

Stacking Blessings of Fortune increases the amount of Gold you find during a run.

Best Fortune Blessings in Abyssus

Precise Gold: Goldburst has a chance to count as a Weakspot hit.
Golden Skin: Gain damage reduction per 100 Gold you have.
Exponential Gold: Goldburst deals additional damage based on your Gold.
Midas Touch: Enemies that die shortly after getting hit by Goldburst turns into Gold.

Aspect of Frost

Aspect of Frost is great for both damage and crowd control. This makes your weapons build up a meter below your target's health — when you fill this meter up, they Freeze, preventing them from moving and acting while making them take a percentage of their max health as damage. The latter effect makes Frost a great Aspect to give to Abilities like the Turret.

Getting multiple Frost Blessings increases the damage you deal to Elites and Bosses, making this an excellent Aspect to take with any weapon.

Quick Freeze: Significantly increases your Frost buildup.
Frostbite: Increases Freeze damage.
Brittle Freeze: Frozen enemies take more damage.
Enduring Freeze: Freeze lasts longer.

Aspect of Blood

Hitting enemies with the Aspect of Blood equipped has a chance to trigger Hemorrhage, which deals damage based on your own maximum health — the tankier you are, the more damage you deal. Aspect of Blood is great for players who aren't quite used to playing Abyssus yet.

Stacking Blood Blessings increases your maximum health, making it perfect for players who prefer a brawler-type playstyle.

Best Blood Blessings in Abyssus

Branding Blood: Enemies take more damage from Hemorrhage when they are damaged by Hemorrhage.
Blood Offering: Dealing damage has a chance to create a Blood Zone that increases the damage you deal.
Baneful Blood: Elites and Bosses take more damage from Hemorrhage.
Red-Blooded: You gain extra max health when an enemy dies shortly after being hit by Hemorrhage.
Steeped in Blood: Hemorrhage damage is increased for every Hemorrhage triggered until you take health damage.

Aspect of Defense

Aspect of Defense forms a shield around players that absorbs damage. This Aspect is an excellent complement for Blood builds, though it works extremely well with pretty much everything as well. Dealing damage with Aspect of Defense equipped builds up a Barrier meter, and when it is full, you gain a shield.

Defense Blessings gives you additional damage reduction, further improving your survivability.

Best Defense Blessings in Abyssus

Rapid Barrier: Barrier cooldown is reduced significantly.
Retaliating Barrier: Any damage taken by your Barrier is reflected at your attacker, multiplied by 10000% at base.
Panicked Barrier: You build Barrier 50% faster.

Aspect of Spirits

This Aspect works a little similarly to Aspect of Defense. Instead of a Barrier gauge, you gain a Spirit gauge that fills up when you deal damage. When the Spirit gauge is filled, a host of spirits will appear and attack your enemies. While this Aspect has a noticeable downtime compared to others, its damage potential is absurd, especially if you're able to build your Spirit gauge quickly.

Spirit Blessings increase the damage you deal against targets with less than half health remaining.

Best Spirit Blessings in Abyssus

Exploding Spirits: Spirits explode.
Barraging Spirits: Spirits deal increased damage with every hit they deal in the same activation window.
Rapid Spirits: Build the Spirit gauge 50% faster.
Plentiful Spirits: Spirit cost is reduced.

Aspect of Night

This is arguably the best utility Aspect in the game next to Aspect of Defense. Aspect of Night inflicts the Shadows status, as indicated by a crescent moon symbol above enemy heads. This makes them take 20% additional damage from all sources. This Aspect is great for Turret builds and weapons like the Brine Revolver and Shotgun.

Stacking Night Blessingsincreases the duration of all status effects you inflict. It synergizes extremely well with Aspect of Fire.

Best Night Blessings in Abyssus

Night's Minor Blessing: Enemies affected by Shadows take 30% of on-hit damage taken by other enemies affected by Shadows.
Infected Shadows: Shadows deals damage over time.
Exposing Shadows: Shadows is more effective against enemies that Weakened, Frozen, Stunned, or Slowed.
Weakening Shadows: Shadows inflicts Weak.

Aspect of the Ocean

This Aspect enables a summoner-type playstyle found in other Roguelike games. It causes your hits to spawn Tentacles, which fling a variety of projectiles at nearby targets. Tentacles act like turrets, and they will target enemies independently of players.

Ocean Blessings increase the damage players deal depending on how many allies are nearby. Tentacles count as allies.

Best Ocean Blessings in Abyssus

Oceanic Supplies: Tentacles have a chance to throw multiple objects at once.
Explosives: Adds explosives to the pool of items thrown by Tentacles.
Acid: Adds acid to the Tentacles' object pool, dealing damage over time.
Anchors: Adds Anchors to the Tentacles' pool of throwables, stunning enemies they hit.
Rapid Tentacles: Tentacle fire rate is increased.
