Enshrouded uses an expanded version of the classic fighter, rogue, and wizard triumvirate of RPG classes as a basis for character builds, and you can't go wrong with any skill and item build you choose. However, you can get a lot more value from your decisions if you concentrate on one specific path.
For players who love getting into the thick of the fight with a big weapon that deals big damage, the Barbarian path of the red fighter skill line is a great place to start. Here's an Enshrouded Barbarian build that focuses on staggering enemies and stacking damage buffs.

Enshrouded: Two-Handed Barbarian Build
The Barbarian branch of the skill tree is all about Overpowering enemies and chaining kills together to increase your damage output. This part of the tree will let you specialize in heavy two-handed weapons, significantly increasing your ability to break an enemy's stance and deal high damage with fast, sweeping melee attacks. You can still freely take skills from other branches, but for the purposes of this build, we'll mainly be focusing on Barbarian skills and a few must-have ones from the Survivor tree.

Blood Rage and Breach are your main damage steroids, and when both are active, you'll deal massively increased damage with melee attacks. The rest are there to help you Overpower enemies more quickly while providing good quality-of-life improvements such as better weapon durability, increased Stamina recovery, and healing.
What Skills Do You Get Next?
Once you get the skills listed above, you're free to take skills from other paths as you see fit. However, we recommend taking some skills from the Tank path to help with survivability. You'll deal more than enough damage with the Barbarian skills, weapon upgrades, and buffs from other sources. Some good skills to get include:
- Upwards Slash Attack (Barbarian): This one is good for reaching flying enemies. If you don't want to rely on a ranged weapon to fight flyers, then take the fight to them using this skill.
- Inner Fires/Relentless Flame (Survivor): If you don't want to worry about dying to the Shroud, these two skills will greatly extend your Shroud timer. They're particularly useful if you're wearing the Guard of the North armor.
- Dessert Stomach (Survivor): Having an extra food slot is a lot more powerful than one might think. This does mean that you'll be eating more food than usual, but it's going to be more than worth it in the long run, especially once you get a sustainable food source at your base.
- Updraft (Assassin): This skill lets you gain extra altitude while gliding, making traversal a lot more convenient.
- Battle Heal (Tank): This skill lets you heal 5% of your max health every time your melee attacks critically strike. It's much more convenient than Blood Warrior, but you'll need a weapon with a high critical hit chance to make the most use of this.
Best Weapons and Armor for Barbarians in Enshrouded
First, we recommend getting the Rising Fighter set as soon as you unlock it at the Blacksmith. It'll give you crit chance, melee damage, health, and health regeneration, which are all great for surviving the earlier areas.
For your next upgrade, consider getting the Guard of the North set in Enshrouded. You can find its pieces scattered across the Pikemead's Reach area. This set is basically a better version of the Rising Fighter set with better stats across the board, though it will significantly reduce the time you can spend inside Shrouded areas when worn.
You can either stick with the Guard of the North set for a while, or craft something else from the Blacksmith if you don't like the Shroud timer reduction. Eventually, though, you'll want to get the Radiant Paladin legendary armor set in the Sun Temple to the far southeastern region of the map.
As for weapons, you'll want to stick with two-handed melee weapons. They deal more damage per hit and are usually better at Overpowering enemies. We do recommend picking between hammers or axes so you can concentrate on one damage type only (Blunt or Cutting). Once you've made your decision, you may then want to take some of the skills under the Warriort skill line that specifically boost your chosen damage type.
You may also want to pack a ranged weapon for the utility it can provide. Bows with special arrows are great, but a staff with an eternal spell could be worth using too, if you have the mana to spare.
