However, while beating up Gotham's criminals in damp alleys is fun, doing it with a friend is even better. Here are the best Batman games that support Co-op.

  • Multiplayer game modes that support up to 8 players
  • Great boss fights, combat game mechanics, and world exploration features

The Arkham series in Batman helped breathe new life into the hero's video game universe, as it introduced great new combat mechanics, incredible boss fights, and a world exploration like never before. Batman: Arkham Origins is the prequel to Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. In this title, Batman is still young and relatively inexperienced. On Christmas Eve, kingpin Black Mask puts a massive bounty on Batman's head and eight professional villains will try to hunt him down to claim the precious bounty.

As with previous installments of the franchise, Batman: Arkham Origins features open-world exploration to complete missions, challenges, and beat up criminals plaguing the streets of Gotham. The story features many of Batman's old enemies and several boss fights that are not only entertaining but also require some critical thinking to win.

As for multiplayer, the game features up to 8 players and two different game modes, "Invisible Predator Online", and "Hunter, Hunted". In the former, 3 players will take on the role of Bane's gang members, and another 3 the role of Joker's gang members. The 2 remaining players will play as Batman and Robin in an effort to take down the 6 thugs from opposing gangs before they manage to carry out their evil plans.

  • Platforming and obstacle-based exploration
  • Based on a beloved Batman miniseries

While not the only Batman game based on an existing miniseries, Batman: The Brave and the Bold - The Videogame is arguably one of the best adaptations out there. Sure, there are others with a similar concept, such as Batman: Vengeance, which is based on the critically acclaimed The New Batman Adventures; however, that's a game specifically designed as a single-player experience.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold - The Videogame supports local co-op of up to 2 players—ideal for an evening with a friend who wants to help take on Gotham's crime. As with other titles, this game includes a wide range of Batman's enemies and prioritizes platforming almost as much as it does combat.

  • A family-friendly take on Batman's world and his enemies
  • Fun, cooperative gameplay

LEGO has been around for a very long time, but it wasn't until the late 2000s that the company started partnering with other brands to offer licensed video games combining a valuable IP and the funny LEGO-people design. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes was a widespread success upon release, as it featured extensive world exploration, and a fun mix of puzzles, lighthearted combat, and many environmental obstacles.

With the story's main antagonist being the infamous Lex Luthor, Batman and Robin will team up to defeat him and stop his evil plans from coming to fruition. One of the greatest things about this game is being able to openly explore the LEGO version of Gotham, which, while family-friendly, still preserves the classical air of crime and chaos that characterizes Bruce Wayne's hometown.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes allows up to 2 players to play together locally, which makes for a fun experience, especially considering that several of the puzzles in the game require cooperation and communication. After all, it's much easier to overcome obstacles with the help of another human being.
