This end of August was huge for updates, with many popular co-op and multiplayer games receiving major end-of-summer content in the form of limited-time events, game mechanics, cosmetics, and more. As such, September is the perfect time to check out some of these old favorites, especially as many upcoming games delayed their release dates to avoid competing with Hollow Knight Silksong. Here are five co-op games that either received updates recently, have an influx of players due to ongoing or recently concluded limited-time events, or both.
Red Dead Online
At the end of August, players in the Wild West adventure Red Dead Online were able to earn 3 x dollars and experience when completing Regular bounty missions, and 2 x dollars, gold, and experience for Legendary and Infamous missions. While these bonuses and other rewards sadly expired on September 1, there's always a chance that new limited time events could be right around the corner. Additionally, there will surely be a healthy player base to experience the game with thanks to these recently concluded festivities, so this month is a great time to team up with friends and claim some Red Dead Online bounties.

Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 has been out since 2024, but it finally saw its long-awaited Xbox Series X and S launch on August 26, 2025. Xbox players can experience the popular cooperative shooter for the first time, while veterans can enjoy the influx of new players, which is speculated to top 500,000 over the weekend following the launch. August 26 also saw the release of a new Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST collaborative Legendary Warbond, featuring new armor and cosmetics inspired by the Halo series. With September 2 serving as the launch of the highly anticipated Into the Unjust update, which added new maps and enemy types, there is truly no better time than now to get in on the Helldivers 2 action.

No Man's Sky
No Man's Sky is known for its frequent content-filled free updates, and the latest, which released on August 27, is no exception. Players can now build ships piece by piece, fully explore ship interiors, and more. The new customizable ships, which are built via Corvette Workshops in space stations, have been favorably compared to similar mechanics in titles such as Starfield. Both the interior and exterior of each vessel can be customized piece by piece using a modular system, allowing players to truly create the ship of their dreams. This month, players can team up in multiplayer to make their ideal ship and explore the vast, ever-expanding universe together.

Gran Turismo 7
Rounding out the co-op games that received updates this week is Gran Turismo 7. On August 27, the racing simulator added four new cars, including two electric "hypercars" designed by Chevrolet.
