Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and The Flash are just a few of the many heroes that have earned a comfortable place in mainstream pop culture. They've appeared not just in comics, but in cartoons, TV shows, movies, and video games.

Most superhero games took a while to capitalize on the powers of these larger-than-life characters. Thankfully, with several lauded developers leading the charge, fans these days have a greater selection of quality DC Comics games to choose from than ever before. These are some of the best.

Batman Begins

Fans will be surprised to know of a Batman game not made by Rocksteady that is more engaging than it has any right to be. Despite being a movie tie-in, the gameplay of Batman Begins was ahead of its time.

Stealth is where this game excels, allowing players to instill fear in the hearts of their opponents as players pick them off one by one. This made up for the by-the-numbers action combat and some cheap moments where the game clumsily added clips from the movie.

There's no denying that Arkham Knight had its fair share of issues. But the gorgeous world, powerful Batmobile, and a satisfactory end to Bruce Wayne's adventures as Batman more than made up for this. Watching this superhero struggle with his illness while trying to save Gotham once again never gets old.

It helps that Batman's moveset in combat is more expansive and impressive than ever before. Watching the Caped Crusader leap at enemies and smash them to bits is a huge part of what makes Arkham Knight so engaging to play.

Telltale's work on story-driven adventure games has been hit or miss, but there's no denying that their Batman games are in a class of their own. This is especially true in the case of the second title, The Enemy Within. Watching John Doe transform into the Joker is a highlight, while the game places equal emphasis on both Batman and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne. This makes for a surprisingly human story with heightened emotions that help The Enemy Within stand out as a masterful Telltale game.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was a massive step forward for superhero games, but no one expected Rocksteady to turn its sequel into one of the greatest video games ever made. Everything from the presentation to the gameplay was improved considerably in this amazing Batman game. The addition of an open world was a genius choice, and gave players more room to perfect their gliding skills. The combat was also improved considerably, and everything was tied together with an incredible story that will keep players on the edge of their seats.
