In Fate/Apocrypha, the fantasy-war-themed series raises combat up a notch and adds a more dark and gloomy background story. Viewers see a lot of new faces and a new servant type (Jean D'arc) stealing the hearts of the audience. Its similar pacing and treatment of power and corruption topics are what makes this anime so similar to Our Last Crusade.

Plus, it has some of the best fighting scenes in the whole Fate franchise so far, so it is a great anime to watch if one likes battle anime. It also has some of the best characters in the franchise, with solid background design and quite interesting personalities.

  • Release Date: March 2015
  • Number Of Episodes: 12

Chivalry Of A Failed Knight combines the shonen, action, and romantic comedy genres with a dark setting, based on the light novels by Riku Misora. The overall world-building of this anime is similar to Our Last Crusade, sans the tech-vs-magic trope. With a dark eerie family-feud background story, and treating topics that range from coming of age to the rise of the underrated hero, this anime is worth watching.

It would be wise to refrain from reading the manga though, as it has a lot of differences with the anime and could spoil a lot of things. Overall, both versions of the story are great, though if fans want to go deep into the Failed Knight universe, they should read the light novel.
