One of the best things about Game Pass on Xbox systems and PC is the ability to play lengthy games and save some money at the same time. Right now, there are a lot of great RPGs on there that are critically acclaimed, like the Fable and Fallout franchises, Hogwarts Legacy, and Persona 4 Golden.

Great 30$ Games You Could Buy After Unsubcribing From Game Pass

If you're miffed about the price increase for Game Pass Ultimate, these $30 games can provide a singular experience for that same $30 price tag.

While playing AAA titles like those is great, Game Pass can also help people discover RPGs they may have missed the first time around. They, too, may have received kind praise from players and reviewers alike, but they may not have reached peak status like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. So, let’s go through some fun choices starting from the most recent to the least recent.

Relic Hunters Legend

Still Semi-Fresh

  • Developer: Rogue Snail
  • Publisher: Rogue Snail
  • Released: 8/14/25
  • Platforms: PC and Xbox Series X/S

Relic Hunters Legend is a relatively new game released in August 2025 without much fanfare on Xbox systems and PC. It’s a shame because the game is a charming top-down action RPG that has a loot system, multiple characters to unlock, and a skill tree. In each dungeon, players can go in alone or with friends, battling countless enemies, which then leads to a boss.

The dungeons are short and sweet, and the shooter mechanics are easy to understand for all types of players. This makes Relic Hunters Legend especially alluring for a game night with friends.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden was released in 2024 and was developed by Don't Nod, who most may know from creating the Life is Strange series. This game begins with Antea, a sort of paranormal warrior who chases after ghouls and puts lost souls to rest, but after an opening mission, she dies.

Her partner, Ruaidhrigh, takes over the business, but because their love is so strong, Antea sticks around as a ghost to help him out. It’s good to think about Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden as a smaller action RPG experience akin to The Witcher games but with a sadder tone.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a turn-based RPG that was released in 2024. It is the second game in the series, preceded by 2022’s Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, which was a 2D action RPG. Overall, this franchise began as an homage to Suikoden, a long-forgotten RPG series by Konami.

The goal of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is to gather an obscene amount of party members in a rebellious war effort to stop an oppressive regime. For those who miss Suikoden and love HD-2D graphics, this is well worth checking out.

Atlas Fallen is an open-world action RPG set within a sandy landscape that was released in 2023. Players can create their character, and after a lengthy tutorial that can last as long as a couple of hours, they will eventually get to roam around this literal sandbox.

Players can surf on the dunes, which is probably the coolest aspect of the gameplay, along with using powers that can reawaken lost ruins within the sands. The action-based combat and gear system will look familiar to most, and while the overall RPG elements are lower than many open-world games, the sandy location is still an interesting place to visit.

The Ascent was released in 2021, and it’s top-down twin-stick shooting taking place within a dark cyberpunk world. Players can create their character and then dive into dungeons, looking for quests, loot, and so on, either alone or with others online or on the couch.

From mutants to big robots, the enemy variety is decent, along with the constant rollout of gear and levels. Upon leveling up, players can boost stats and tinker with other aspects of their character to create the ultimate tech warrior.

Minecraft Dungeons is the best action RPG to give players unaccustomed to Diablo-like looter games, which is to say it is easier than most. Unlike the main game, there are no building mechanics involved in this 2020 spinoff, and there aren’t even classes to choose from.

Players will equip gear as they go through dungeons alone or with friends, which will change their gameplay style from mechanics that resemble everything from a warrior to a mage. Minecraft Dungeons may not be the deepest dungeon crawler out there, but it is a good time with friends or family members.

Trials of Mana was released for the SNES in 1995, before getting this full 3D remake in 2020 on systems like the PS4, but then Xbox fans had to wait longer into 2024. At the start, players can choose the character they want to play with, and then throughout the adventure, they can gain more allies.

Depending on starting heroes and paths taken, players can get a different story every time, making it one of the more open Mana games. With a relatively short runtime for an action RPG, Trials of Mana is worth replaying at least once, let alone checking it out for the first time.

Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom was released in 2018 originally, but Xbox fans didn’t get it until 2023. Unlike the original game, this sequel is an action RPG, and the Pokemon-like element was removed. Those two things kept it from gaining as big a popularity, but it’s still an impressive game with new mechanics that some could argue are better replacements for the monster-catching gameplay.

For example, players can rebuild their kingdom in a mini-city builder experience, or they can perform RTS-like battles on the world map to regain territories. These distractions in Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom are as good as the main attraction, the action-based combat, along with the Studio Ghibli-inspired visuals.

Costume Quest is a true blast from the past, released in 2010 as one of Double Fine’s few RPG endeavors. In this short turn-based game, a group of kids will go around trick or treating and then find themselves fighting goblins trying to steal their candy.

In combat, these kids will use their imaginations to transform into cooler versions of their costumes. A dopey-looking robot becomes more impressive in battle, for example. RPG fans should keep Costume Quest and its 2014 sequel in mind for the next Halloween season.

The Bard's Tale ARPG: Remastered and Resnarkled is based on a 2004 game that was released for the PS2 and original Xbox initially. This version of the remaster was released for Xbox fans in 2020, and it’s a great top-down action RPG with a lot of killer humor.

It’s a satirical look at RPGs as a whole, from NPCs to fetch quests to the villains. Players who played more than their fair share of 90s PC RPGs or tabletop sessions of Dungeons & Dragons will get the most out of The Bard's Tale ARPG: Remastered and Resnarkled’s comedy.
