Invincible: Strongest Characters in the Comics

The Invincible comic series harbors characters with immense powers, and the strongest of them rival their animated show counterparts.

Whether they were formed on or off the battlefield, these friendships have to survive the unique challenges and hardships that come with superhero life. In this article, we will rank the best friendships in Invincible.

10 Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson) & Art Rosenbaum

A Long-Lasting Friendship Tainted By Betrayal

While this friendship gets little screen time, in the comics, it's a little more fleshed out, showing that Omni-Man has genuine respect and friendship with Art. Even after Art exposes Nolan's betrayal to Debbie, Omni-Man spares his life and shares a drink with him while reminiscing about the old days.

After the destruction of Chicago, Art can be seen throwing a photo of him and Nolan fishing into the trash, showcasing how hurt he was by Nolan's betrayal. The fact that the Viltrumite conqueror even spent this time with Art shows fans that Omni-Man did value Art as a friend. Even after Omni-Man's betrayal, Art still helped both Mark and Oliver and welcomed Nolan back to Earth, proving he was a good friend.

9 Cecil Stedman & Donald Fuguson

A Friendship That Persists After Death

The friendship between Cecil and Donald is one of the more complex and interesting relationships in Invincible; after all, Donald has died nearly 40 times, and Cecil always brings him back. Although Cecil justifies the millions of dollars spent bringing Donald back as a tactical necessity, it's clear to fans that Cecil values Donald as a friend, probably his best friend.

This strangely wholesome friendship has some great moments, with Donald regularly cracking Cecil's cold exterior, making him one of the few characters with whom Cecil can have a genuine conversation. Although the relationship does seem a little one-sided, Cecil shows how much he values his friendship with Donald throughout the series.

8 Invincible (Mark Grayson) & Oliver Grayson

Half-Brothers And Best Friends

Mark and his half-brother, Oliver, share a strong friendship marked by a unique dynamic. Mark is not only Oliver's best friend but also a brother and a father figure, which leads to both heartwarming and challenging moments throughout the series. Oliver's admiration for their father influences Mark, serving as a key factor in Mark's forgiveness of Nolan.

The two have shared many wholesome moments, including Mark taking Oliver to get his first suit, teaching him how to fly, and, most importantly, laughing and enjoying themselves like normal siblings and friends. Although they have disagreed on many occasions, they both care for each other and have a strong relationship.

7 William Clockwell & Rick Sheridan

Two Mostly Normal Friends In A Messed-Up World

Despite the limited screen time, the friendship between William and Rick is one of the best in the show. Of course, the relationship later becomes romantic, but their friendship remains one of the most compelling in the series, especially given the dark events of Rick’s kidnapping.

Invincible: 8 Characters the Show Made Better

Despite the brilliant similarities between characters from the Invincible comic to the show, the latter does make some improvements.

After Rick is kidnapped by D.A. Sinclair (Dr. Seismic in the comics), he is tortured and turned into a mindless, zombie-like cyborg known as ReAnimen. However, after his transformation, William never gives up on Rick and even manages to get through to him, albeit very briefly. The fact that William got through to Rick shows how much their friendship means to him.

6 Invincible (Mark Grayson) & Rex Splode

From Frenemies To Good Friends

Despite a rocky start, Mark and Rex do become good friends. In the beginning, Rex was arrogant, impulsive, and was always clashing with Mark. However, throughout the series, Rex grows as an individual to the point of being one of Mark's most trusted friends. In Season 3, when Cecil attacks Mark, Rex shows no hesitation as he jumps in to save his friend.

Guardians of the Globe vary in power in Invincible, but these members are easily the strongest of them all.

Similarly, Mark is the only character to stand up for Rex after he is attacked by Multi-Paul. They are such good friends that Rex even encouraged Mark to talk to Eve, arguably being responsible for their relationship blossoming. Throughout Season 3, the interactions between Rex and Mark are always wholesome, showcasing the strong friendship they've developed.

5 Robot (Rudy) & Monster Girl (Amanda)

A Friendship Born From Struggle

Rudy and Amanda's friendship, which eventually develops into a romance, is forged through struggle. The pair have bonded over their struggles, with Robot's physical condition and Monster Girl's curse. When Robot finally created his own body and became Rudy, he decided to make a younger form to match Amanda's reverse-aging body.

Rudy and Amanda would go on to become close friends, even creating a cure of sorts for Amanda's curse. Rudy would leave the prestigious Guardians of the Globe just to follow Amanda to the Teen Team. Their love blossomed from their friendship, and although they have found themselves in some crazy situations (especially in the comics), their bond remains strong.

4 Invincible (Mark Grayson) & Allen The Alien

Interstellar Best Friends

From the moment they first met, following their brief battle, Invincible and Allen the Alien became friends and allies. After the battle between Omni-Man and Invincible, Allen comforts Mark and becomes his ‘space best friend’ throughout much of the series. Allen would attempt to recruit Mark to the Coalition of Planets, not only because of his strength but also because he considers Mark a good friend.

Allen the Alien would even intentionally be captured by the Viltrumites to find out if Marks' dad, Nolan (Omni-Man), was still alive. While Nolan would be a great help against the Viltrumite Empire, Allen went so far as to free Nolan because he understands how much it would mean to Mark.

3 Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson) & Allen The Alien

An Unexpected Friendship

This unexpected duo formed one of the most intriguing friendships in the series. Although they had met a few times before Omni-Man departed Earth, Allen and Omni-Man became close friends while they were held captive by the Viltrumites. Over a few months, the pair talked to each other all day through Allen's telepathy and became best friends.

During their conversations, Nolan realized how much he loved his wife, Debbie, and how deeply he missed Mark. The two eventually escape from the Viltrumite prison and travel the galaxy together, searching for ways to defeat the Viltrumites. Throughout this journey, the time they spent together only strengthened their friendship.

2 Invincible (Mark Grayson) & Atom Eve (Samantha Eve Wilkins)

From Teammates To Close Friends To Partners

After meeting while battling the Flaxan invasion, Invincible recognizes Atom Eve at his high school the following day. Mark and Eve would go on to become close friends, as they both understood the harsh realities of being superheroes. Eve would be Mark's main ‘superhero friend’ as the pair could be fully honest with each other about their home and superhero lives.

Invincible: Strongest Female Characters, Ranked

Among its roster of heroes and villains, Invincible contains quite a few powerful female characters.

After the battle between Invincible and Omni-Man, Eve is one of the first people to reach out and offer to support Mark. Even while Mark was dating Amber, Eve, despite her own feelings for him, supported their relationship, demonstrating the strength of their friendship. Eventually, Mark and Eve develop their bond into something deeper, leading to one of the strongest relationships in the series.

1 Invincible (Mark Grayson) & William Clockwell

Lifelong Best Friends

William is Mark's best and oldest friend, and they have been close since childhood. He supported Mark long before he became Invincible, and when he learned about Mark's powers, he felt excitement rather than jealousy or anger. This reaction illustrates just how great a friend William truly is.

What makes William and Mark's friendship so strong is how ‘normal’ William is. No matter what challenges Mark faces, whether it's an alien invasion, an evil father, or a deranged madman, William remains the one stable presence in Mark's life. Unlike most relationships in the series, this pair isn't tethered by any duties or superhero teams; they are simply great friends.
