Starting off strong, Kingdoms Reborn is an interesting city builder that allows the player to create their own medieval city that doesn't just follow the typical European Middle Ages. Players are able to choose from different cultures as well as starting locations to create a unique city-building experience for themselves.

It should, however, be noted that with Kingdoms Reborn, this game doesn't only focus on the player making their own medieval city, but instead watching how this city grows and develops through different eras of time. Even though the game hasn't even fully released yet, this colony sim game that combines with the medieval city builder is by far one of the most interesting titles a player should consider trying.

In Norland, players lead a noble family as they expand their small town into an impressive kingdom while facing off against all sorts of threats. Besides the usual of creating enough food to ward off starvation, and the typical attacks from rival families, players are also met with the conflicts of class and the religious drama of the Medieval period. Many city-building games tend to have players building homes and planning fields from up in the sky as if they were some sort of god looking down upon their people. However, games like Bellwright may have players building like this, but for once, they are able to walk among the villagers of the adorable settlements to see how village life is going and maybe even give them a different perspective on how they could plan their cities.

Becoming the hero of the people in Bellwright is one of the biggest objectives, with players not only building up multiple settlements rather than simply focusing on one, but also commanding armies while standing with their people to defend the homes they have created from any opposition. Bellwright is another medieval city builder that is in early access, meaning this already deep progression is likely to go even deeper with time.

Truly get creative with Going Medieval as players are encouraged to build a city that they would be proud of. Not every medieval city builder requires the player to experience a more realistic world, with titles such as Going Medieval being perfect for those who want more than simply building structures for their townsfolk to live in.

In a world that has been reclaimed by the wilderness after an apocalypse, players are doing a lot more than simply building a city, but also creating a stronghold to help those in need survive. There is more to a medieval city than if it's a winding fort or deep underground, as each resident is also unique to the city the player is creating in Going Medieval, meaning players should consider what these people want too.

Manor Lords is another phenomenal city builder set during the Middle Ages, where players can walk among the buildings they have created. This title is more than a regular city builder, as Manor Lords also highlights its strategy gameplay as players take part in all sorts of medieval warfare.

However, there wouldn't be any reason to battle others if there weren't an incredible settlement to defend. With city building that doesn't keep to any grid, there is an almost handmade feeling to every settlement the player establishes, with resources in Manor Lords being just as important as any other city building title.

Fabledom

Out of all the available medieval city-building games over the years, one of the most loved titles is most deserving of the title, created by Grenaa Games known as Fabledom. As seen with the likes of Kingdoms and Castles, a game doesn't need to have intense gameplay to be a brilliant title about building cities in the Middle Ages. Fabledom is perfect for those who are looking for a cozier experience as they focus on the lives of the townsfolk to make them their perfect home.

While players will need to take moments from this laid-back city builder to defend their home from various monsters. However, one of its most important features is how love shapes the way the kingdom is built. With plenty of fantasy creatures for the player to encounter, Fabledom is by far the cutest medieval city builder around and arguably one of the greatest too.
