After many years of waiting, Deadpool & Wolverine has brought the famous Marvel hero and anti-hero together for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the two heroes have had multiple chances to shine in video game form over the years, particularly in the last two decades; from the PS2 era to the modern of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
From dungeon-crawling RPGs to hack-and-slash action adventures, video games have shown these two heroes the love they have always deserved. A few games have even managed to portray Deadpool and Wolverine better than certain movies, showing their true potential long before their cinematic crossover.

After Deadpool made his video game debut in X-Men Legends II: Rise Of Apocalypse, he and Wolverine returned as base roster characters in Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Ultimate Alliance proved to be a successful sequel and a classic of the PS2 era, including its wider selection of Marvel characters instead of only X-Men.
Both heroes play similarly to their X-Men Legends counterparts, but are polished even more in Ultimate Alliance. Deadpool features lots of agility and weapon-based attacks, while Logan is obviously more about slashing and animal-like senses. When paired up with other heroes such as Captain America or Spider-Man, it makes for an ideal superhero team.

Logan and Wade are back in Ultimate Alliance 2, but in surprising ways. Inspired by Civil War, Ultimate Alliance 2 has two campaigns to play through: Iron Man's Pro-Registration and Captain America's Anti-Registration parties. This results in some characters only being unlocked in specific campaigns.
While not as beloved as the first game, Ultimate Alliance 2 was a quality sequel that took a different direction and added villains as playable characters. Despite being a long-time friend of Logan's, Deadpool is unlocked in the Pro-Registration campaign, while Wolverine is Anti-Registration, making it more of a challenge for those wanting to play both.

The Merc With A Mouth finally became the star of his own game, aptly titled Deadpool, in 2013. The game is more or less a big-budget parody of video games as a whole. With Nolan North taking on the role of Deadpool again, the player experiences a typical day in the life of Wade Wilson that is not only action-packed, but also hilarious.
The Deadpool game is crass, immature, violent, and vulgar, and it set the gold standard for a Deadpool adaptation until Ryan Reynolds movies came along. As a bonus, Wolverine is featured in the game as one of many characters Deadpool works with to save the world while breaking the fourth wall.

Despite being based on a maligned Marvel film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine managed to become a beloved superhero game. With Hugh Jackman providing the voice of Logan, the gameplay is a clone of classic God Of War games, making for a well-crafted hack-and-slash title set in the X-Men universe.
Where the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie was a watered-down mess, the game was a visceral, bloody, and gory Wolverine adventure. Fans liked the game better since the events of the game were very different from the movie, with more comic book elements and an M for Mature rating. The only downside was that Deadpool was still the version with his mouth sewn shut.

Thanks to DLC expansions, Deadpool was one of the biggest additions to Marvel's Midnight Suns, an already stellar Marvel game. While deck-building may be off-putting at first, Marvel's Midnight Suns proved to be a polished tactical game with strong RPG elements and a love for the Marvel universe.
Deadpool and Wolverine are only two of a great cast of characters in Midnight Suns. With dialogue choices, expansive ability customization, and strong voice acting, Marvel's Midnight Suns was a strong return to standalone Marvel ensemble games that had been missing since the mid-2000s.
