Summary

  • Guilds in MMOs allow players to access new content and benefits like crafting and buffs.
  • MMOs like Guild Wars 2, The Elder Scrolls Online, and Final Fantasy 14 offer guild systems that go beyond the expectations of players.
  • Guild alliances, unique mounts, specific guild hall amenities, and raid features are key highlights in MMO guild systems.

There are countless MMOs out there that players can find and try out. Whether they want one set in an alternate version of history (like Fallout 76) or one set in a completely different land with a different society (like World of Warcraft), there are a ton of options.

One of the best parts of these games is that players can create the character they have always wanted, and they can meet new people from all over the world. Here are the MMOs with the best guild systems that allow players to step into the world they are playing in.

5 Guild Wars 2

Access To New Content

What Sets It Apart:

  • Guilds can create Guild Armor and Weapons.
  • Access to a crafting discipline is only available to Guild members.
  • Access to Guild Missions.

Guild Wars 2 has an amazing system for its Guilds. Players can join up to 5 Guilds and switch between them at any time in the Guild Panel. These Guilds will focus on a whole multitude of things; some may focus on PvP or PvE. Others may focus on having players that are located in the same geographical location or that share a language. Players can find a community for anything in the game.

Additionally, Guilds are a great way to access content that players otherwise wouldn't have access to. Players can access the Guild Hall from anywhere in the game, allowing them to go to a centralized location with others in the Guild. They can also access the Scribe discipline and obtain different Guild Enhancements, which can add certain buffs to anyone who is in the Guild, including making fast travel cheaper.

4 The Elder Scrolls Online

The More, The Merrier

What Sets It Apart:

  • Extremely large groups of players are dedicated to the game.
  • Access to Guild Stores for players.
  • Access to Guild Traders for players.

The Elder Scrolls Online is another MMO with an interesting guild system. Like Guild Wars 2, the game allows players to join up to 5 guilds at any given time, giving them access to a wide variety of players to associate with. The Guilds in the game can be customized by allowing players to change the name of the Guild Ranks, meaning they can rename the ranks from Guildmaster, Officer, Member, and Recruit to something that allows them to roleplay more.

Guilds also allow players to access new content. For instance, players can access the Guild Store, which can be accessed by speaking to the bankers around the game. The Guild Store is where people in the Guild can sell things to other members. Guilds can also hire Guild Traders, which will allow anyone to access the Guild Store for a week, helping out those in the Guild who have posted their items to sell.

3 Final Fantasy 14

The Free Companies

What Sets It Apart:

  • Players can access a whole host of buffs associated with Guilds.
  • Members are given access to Free Company Crafting.
  • Guilds have the opportunity to access Free Company Workshops.

Final Fantasy XIV Online is Final Fantasy's take on an MMO, and its Guild System is one of the best players can find. In the game, Guilds are called Free Companies and players can only join one at a time. However, they will be given access to a whole host of benefits, and these Free Companies can have up to 512 members, meaning that players will be able to meet a ton of players when they join one of these.

The game allows players in Free Companies to access a variety of actions that otherwise wouldn't be available (and some that would just be difficult for one person). A Free Company can purchase an estate (player home) which can then be established as their headquarters. There, players can access Free Company Crafting and Workshops, which will allow them to craft a whole host of items, including Aetherial Wheels and Free Company Airships.

2 Albion Online

An Extensive System

What Sets It Apart:

  • Guilds can form Alliances with other Guilds.
  • Guilds have their own Guild Islands.
  • Guilds are able to claim territories.

Albion Online has an extremely extensive guild system for its players. Players can join a Guild, which can have up to 300 players. However, Guilds can connect with other guilds and form a Guild Alliance, allowing players from multiple Guilds to work together. Another interesting aspect is the Guild Tax. Guilds can tax a percentage of silver obtained by their members; however, this goes toward helping players get better equipment and helping the Guild take over new areas, making it a worthwhile addition.

22 Best Free To Play MMOs Of All Time

MMOs are perfect for players that want to embark on a crazy adventure in another world. This gets a bit easier with free-to-play options.

What makes this system so cool is that players have a ton of new content when they are in a Guild. The Guild can work together to take over territories that haven't been claimed, and they can wage war on territories that have been claimed. This allows them to work together to take the land for their own Guild. If a Guild owns territory, the players in that Guild can obtain Season Points and can use the amenities in the area (which can include some farm plots).

1 Everquest 2

Ahead Of Its Time

What Sets It Apart:

  • Players in Guilds can access specific mounts only available to Guilds.
  • Guild Halls have a ton of Guild Hall Amenities that aren't available otherwise.
  • The Guild Raids aren't like they are in other games.

Everquest II is an old MMO (released in 2004, the same year as World of Warcraft), but that doesn't mean that it isn't an amazing game. In fact, a lot of what Everquest II offered back then was way ahead of its time, and that includes the guild system the game has. The general idea of Guilds is pretty similar in this game to what players would expect from Guilds. Players can join a Guild that is focused on a specific thing, such as playing together, roleplaying together, or just being a social club of sorts.

What truly sets the game apart is the amenities that players are given when they join a Guild. They offer players access to mounts, titles, and housing items otherwise not available. They also have a Guild Hall, which offers a ton of Hirelings, which are NPCs like bankers, merchants, etc. These Hirelings can be completely customized by the Guild. It also offers special objects such as mailboxes, chests, new fast travel options, and even new abilities that allow players to access the Guild Hall from anywhere in the game. Guild Raids can also be accessed by players, which is where a group of Guild Members will raid certain areas and kill bosses, giving them better equipment and rewards.
