RPGs are well known for offering players multiple dialogues, armor, weapons, and even romance choices. The latter allows them to court a person of their interest throughout the story, eventually resulting in the development of a relationship. In many cases, it's necessary to pick the right conversations, and perform the correct actions, as otherwise, players' romantic interests might walk away or stop feeling attracted to them. Here are some of the best open-world RPGs with unique romance options.

  • Players can romance a wide variety of characters
  • Choosing the right actions and conversations is key to developing a relationship

Romancing people in Fallout 4 produces a bittersweet feeling up to a certain point. As any player who's completed the first few hours of the game knows, the main character starts out as a suburban parent, living with their spouse and newborn child in a cozy retrofuturistic neighborhood. However, as thousands of nuclear bombs start to drop and the family is sheltered in a vault, things take a turn for the worse, leaving the Sole Survivor a single parent.

Romancing in Fallout 4 can take a few unexpected and weird turns. And while that might be expected in a post-nuclear holocaust world, sometimes the options available get a little strange. Players can choose to romance attractive female characters like Curie, Piper, Cait, and Magnolia. It's also possible to romance Gilda Broscoe, a famous former actress who's now just a brain inside a machine. Players can also romance male characters, like Preston Garvey, Porter Gage, Paladin Danse, Robert MacCready, and even the Ghoul, John Hancock.

  • Some romance options aren't available depending on players' gender
  • Players can romance both humans and aliens

Assuming the role of either Scott or Sara Ryder, players will have to explore the Andromeda Galaxy after they've been tasked to find a new home for humanity. However, this won't be easy, as players will have to deal with a dangerous alien species known as the Kett to survive and continue their important journey of discovery. Mass Effect: Andromeda gives players full control over who they want to romance; however, picking either Scott or Sara will close a few options respectively, as some romanceable characters are straight. As Scott Ryder, players can romance the alien Avela Kjar, and the humans Cora Harper and Gil Brodie. If players choose Sara, on the other hand, they can romance humans Liam Kosta, and Dr. Suvi Anwar.

There are other romance options that players can build a relationship with regardless of who they pick to play the game as, such as the Angaran Jaal Ama Darav, the Turian Vetra Nyx, the Asari Keri T'Vessa, and the human Reyes Vidal. While many players argue that Mass Effect: Andromeda isn't an open-world game, but rather an action RPG with vast, varied areas, others defend that it does have enough open-world elements to be considered one.

  • Players can romance almost every race in Skyrim
  • Marriage grants players homecooked meals and lots of love

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is famous for many things, and one of them is how complex and well-crafted its game mechanics are, considering the limitations of its time. Sure, the game wasn't perfect, and it had (and still has) a lot of bugs that range from funny, to game-breaking, but even so, it still presented players with almost an infinite number of possibilities in terms of builds, spells, and, of course, romancing options.

Like other open-world fantasy RPGs, Skyrim lets players romance many of the different races spread across the region. This means that it's possible for players to build a relationship with a Human, an Orc, a Redguard, a Dark Elf, a Breton, an Argonian, and even a High Elf. The catlike Khajiit cannot be romanced or married, and some players argue that this is because of Skyrim law, which allegedly forbids them to marry in the region.

Some player favorites throughout the years are Aela the Huntress from The Companions, and the merchant Ysolda, who can also be found in Whiterun from a very early point in the game.

  • Romantic options aren't as vast as other titles in this genre, but there's still a decent number of them
  • Players can choose to pursue full-fledged relationships, or one-time romantic encounters, and hire Joytoys

While at first it might seem like Cyberpunk 2077 is all about crime, shootouts and tons of crazy bodily cybernetical upgrades, there's actually much more to the game than that. As players progress through the story, they'll come across many NPCs who play key roles in different missions. The more they get to know them, the higher their chances of developing a relationship with them. While Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't have as many romance options as other games on this list, there are more than enough for players to choose from. That said, depending on the voice type and gender players choose, some romance options will be locked.

Not every open-world game is packed full of action and combat. Some are deeper and can be quite sad as players progress their stories.

Relationships in this game can be divided into three main categories: full-fledged relationships, romantic encounters, and Joytoys. Full-fledged relationships include characters like Panam Palmer, Judy Álvarez, River Ward, and Kerry Eurodyne. Romantic encounters can be had with Meredith Stout, Alt Cunningham, Ruby Collins, and Rogue Amendiares, and they're usually a one-time thing. Joytoys, on the other hand, are professionals who can be hired at any time by V, they just need to know where to look for them.

  • Geralt's main love interests are Yennefer and Triss
  • Players must choose their actions and words carefully to keep the romance alive

Although Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is usually too busy dealing with monsters and rescuing peasant girls from certain death, he somehow finds the time to also find himself in the middle of love triangles between sorceresses and medics. While sorceresses Yennefer of Vengerberg and Triss Merigold are Geralt's main love interests and players will have to choose either one for a full romance story, there are other characters, like Shani from the Hearts of Stone DLC , who also hold a special place in the heart of the Butcher of Blaviken.

Throughout the game, players can choose to interact with Geralt's various love interests, and depending on the dialogue options they choose and their actions, they'll end up with one or the other.
