Baldur's Gate 3 is now the highest-rated PlayStation 5 game. Sony's newest console has been out for a few years now, and it has already built up quite the impressive library. But while there are many high-quality games readily available to play on PlayStation 5, the vast majority of them are cross-gen releases that were also launched for the last-generation PS4 console.
Three years into the PS5's lifespan, it's becoming more common to see games released specifically for the PS5 and other platforms in its generation. These games do a better job of taking advantage of the PS5's beefier hardware and aim to provide true next-gen experiences for players. Baldur's Gate 3 fits that description, and according to critics, it's the absolute best game currently available on the console.
The reviews are now in for the PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3, which launched one month after the PC release. As expected, Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5 has been showered with praise and has earned near-universal acclaim, giving it an incredible 97 overall rating on review aggregate site Metacritic. Only nine critic reviews have been counted for the PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 so far, but it's hard to see the score deviating too much from the PC version, which finished at an incredible 96 overall rating.

Baldur's Gate 3 has good company in the top 10 highest-rated PS5 games. Second place goes to Elden Ring, followed by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition, God of War Ragnarok, Hades, Tetris Effect: Connected, Resident Evil 4, Demon's Souls, Street Fighter 6, and Persona 5 Royal. Out of these, the only ones that aren't available on PS4 in some capacity are Baldur's Gate 3 and the Demon's Souls remake, but more PS5-only games are on the horizon.
As for Baldur's Gate 3, the game has been hugely successful so far and its PlayStation release should only help to further cement it as one of the absolute top games of not only 2023, but in the history of gaming. And the thing is, Baldur's Gate 3 still has more platforms to make its way to in the near future. The Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 is expected to release at some point within the next few months. When it does, one has to imagine that it stands a very good chance of becoming the highest-rated Xbox Series X game as well.
