This week's Gamescom showcase delivered a slew of exciting announcements for games arriving in the remainder of 2025, but none seemed to be as climactic as the reveal that Hollow Knight: Silksong would finally release on September 4. In just two weeks, players will be able to get their hands on the long-awaited Silksong, including PS5 owners, making now a perfect time to start clearing out the backlog. With the weekend now upon us, there are a handful of games new to PS5 this week that players should try and set aside some time for, especially before the deluge of new releases arriving in the last week of August and beyond.
Hollow Knight
One game that's not a new release but that players have an excuse to play this weekend is the original Hollow Knight. There's arguably no better way to prepare for Silksong's upcoming release and get hyped for Team Cherry's latest game than to play its predecessor, which still holds up as one of the greatest modern Metroidvanias nearly ten years after its release. A lot of us are all aboard the hype train for Silksong again after years of repeated delays and mystery surrounding its release, so diving into some Hollow Knight seems like the perfect accompaniment to spur on that renewed interest.

Resident Evil 2
Last year, Capcom released a PS5 version of Resident Evil: Director's Cut that happened to be free for anyone who had previously purchased it as a PSOne Classic on PS3 or PS Vita, and now it's done the same with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The PS5 ports of these survival horror classics do a great job bringing the experience to modern hardware while keeping it faithful to playing on native PS1 hardware, with the notable exception of having quality-of-life features like save states and gameplay rewind. The original Resident Evil 2 is the highlight of the series' original PS1 trilogy, and having it more easily accessible on PS5 presents the perfect opportunity to revisit it this weekend.

The Rogue: Prince of Persia
This week also finally saw the release of The Rogue: Prince of Persia into 1.0, which means it's finally available on all modern consoles, including PS5. This action roguelike spin-off of the classic Prince of Persia franchise features some incredibly slick movement and combat, which makes sense when you realize which studio is behind it. The Rogue: Prince of Persia comes from Evil Empire, the same studio that took over development duties on Dead Cells for Motion Twin, and it's every bit the great roguelike you'd expect given that pedigree. Now that it's finally free from its PC exclusivity, it's the perfect time to give it a shot.

Triangle Strategy
Square Enix and Artdink's Triangle Strategy also found its way onto PS5 and Xbox Series X/S this week after three years of being a Switch and PC exclusive. With the release of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles now just a month away, players might be looking for another TRPG to get themselves in the tactical spirit, and Triangle Strategy is one of the stronger options out there. It features a complex, multi-layered narrative rife with political intrigue, some satisfying turn-based combat, and the gorgeous HD-2D art style popularized by games like Octopath Traveler, and its arrival on PS5 sets it up as the perfect appetizer before Final Fantasy Tactics' remaster arrives.

Dorfromantik
It's hard to think of a game better than Dorfromantik to help you relax after a long and stressful work week. This charming and cozy puzzle game is the perfect kind of title to unwind and "turn your brain off" to. It only just recently arrived on PS5 on August 14, but over on Steam, it's long been one of the most popular and highly rated puzzle games, holding an impressive 96% "Overwhelmingly Positive" user rating. If you're in the mood for something far less stressful than some of the other games highlighted here, Dorfromantik is it.
