A week after its release showcase, Baldur’s Gate 3 is now among the best-selling games on Steam. This milestone may come as a surprise for many players, as Baldur’s Gate 3 is not even out yet and isn't scheduled to release on Steam until August 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an upcoming RPG from Larian Studios, the company behind the Divinity series. Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place 120 years after Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, the last main installment in the Baldur’s Gate franchise that was released in 2000 by BioWare. Over two decades later, Larian Studios brings back this iconic RPG series with a new game filled with hostile creatures and friendly companions - or more than friendly, as players can romance some Baldur’s Gate 3 characters.

The recent release showcase increased the hype around Baldur’s Gate 3, presenting some of the features available in the game, including a steamy relationship with a bear. Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently in early access until its full release on August 3.

The popularity of Baldur’s Gate 3 before its release hints at good sales numbers for Larian Studios. Some games even delayed their release date to avoid having Baldur’s Gate 3 as a competitor, as this new entry in the Baldur’s Gate series may take all the attention upon the week of its launch. One week may not even be enough, as Larian Studios recently confirmed that players will need between 75 and 100 hours to complete the main campaign of Baldur’s Gate 3. Completionists can double this playtime to discover everything Baldur’s Gate 3 has to offer.

Larian Studios confirmed some of the features players can discover when Baldur’s Gate 3 releases this August. The launch of Baldur’s Gate 3 will come with two new races, one new subrace, one new class, 22 new subclasses, new companions, and a new origin character. Players who already tried Baldur’s Gate 3 during its early access will discover a total of three difficulty modes and a higher level cap than currently available.

Baldur's Gate 3 comes out on August 3 on PC and September 6 on PS5.
