The first full month of revenue figures for the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop have been revealed, and it turns out that the independently developed game Deltarune surpassed Mario Kart World in digital sales. This success story follows the decision to release chapters 3 and 4 of Deltarune on the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2, which undoubtedly influenced a lot of early purchases.

Deltarune is an episodic RPG developed by Toby Fox, the creator of Undertale. The first chapter was released in 2018, followed by the second in 2021, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the next part of the story. Shortly after announcing the planned updates for this popular game in April, Toby Fox also revealed an exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 feature for Deltarune. Now that the sales figures for June are out, it's clear that all of these decisions have led to early success for the independent developer.

According to analysis performed by Newzoo, Deltarune was the top-selling digital game on Nintendo Switch 2 during the month of June 2025. Following in second place was Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, and the third best-selling digital game was none other than Mario Kart World. Minecraft and No Man's Sky were the fourth and fifth best-selling digital titles respectively during the first month of sales for the record-breaking Nintendo Switch 2 console.

Deltarune Outsells Mario Kart World on Nintendo Switch 2 eShop

  1. Deltarune
  2. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour
  3. Mario Kart World
  4. Minecraft
  5. No Man's Sky

These sales figures only represent digital revenue and are not representative of physical sales, and when accounting for those figures as well, Nintendo ultimately sold more copies of Mario Kart World than Deltarune. This data falls in line with a previous report which found that Mario Kart World sold over 1 million copies in Japan alone. However, physical copies of Deltarune for Switch aren't available, so Nintendo definitely has a sizable advantage in that department.

In addition to these findings, Newzoo also pointed out that Deltarune was not the only third-party title doing well on the Nintendo Switch 2, with titles such as No Man's Sky, Fantasy Life, and even Cyberpunk 2077 capturing a large amount of the total digital revenue in June 2025. Much like Deltarune, Cyberpunk 2077 announced an exclusive feature for the Nintendo Switch 2, and when accounting for physical sales of the game, it was the third best-selling game on the console during its first month on the market.

Nintendo has a history of trouble selling third-party titles, and a recent NielsenIQ report found that at least during these early stages, most Nintendo Switch 2 game sales have been first-party. However, the impressive digital revenue figures of several independent and third-party titles during June reveal that there is a path to success on Nintendo consoles.
