A core tenet of RPGs is the creation of character builds, and there are various roles and classes to occupy in such games. Of these, the support role is incredibly important, coming with abilities to heal allies, bolster friends, or reduce enemy deadliness. They might not be as fun to play as damage-dealing classes, but they are often vital to progression. A dedicated support can help win the game and should be focused on just as much as the other available roles.

For anyone who is familiar with the RPG genre, it tends to be obvious as to what classes do what, even with no hours spent in the game. Knights of the Old Republic is different, however, featuring support classes that can be familiar in a gameplay sense but unique in appearance.

The Jedi Consular class can support the party with their force abilities. They are able to heal party members while also affecting and debuffing enemies with their abilities. Given that they specialize in the force, they can also deal damage from range as well as provide support.

Usually, isometric RPGs tend to feature some of the more involved and in-depth classes and builds that players can use. There are a ton of classes in Pathfinder Kingmaker, with obvious roles such as melee damage dealer, magic damage dealer, and, of course, support.

There are obvious examples of support classes, such as bard, cleric, and paladin, all of which have ways of helping allies. Some are able to heal others, while some can bolster allies. Some classes are even able to do both, making for great support playthroughs.

A game created by BioWare and Obsidian would naturally be an amazing RPG. This was the case when Neverwinter Nights came out, and it provided players with various classes to choose from. The support classes available are very traditional choices, being ones that players will have seen before in other RPGs.

Clerics are the notable class, with options for both support and otherwise. Good Domain Cleric has the ability to protect others, while Healing Domain can restore the health of allies. Other classes, such as bard and paladin, are also present and can execute support abilities.

3 Genshin Impact

Support Characters Are Needed To Build A Functioning Team

While Genshin Impact might not fit the immediate thought of support builds, it does allow for players to engage in such a playstyle. The main gameplay revolves around controlling a party, but with only one character on-field, and support characters are needed to supplement the team.

More niche characters, such as Faruzan or Kujou Sara, help with their unique playstyles, suited for buffing other teammates of the same element to deal increased damage.

When creating various personas, building a dedicated support persona out of other support personas leads to an incredibly valuable support build. Of course, there are different support skills in Persona 5, and many are crucial to progression, such as Debilitate, Heat Riser, and Concentrate.

One of the well-known highlights of Baldur's Gate 3 is the sheer amount of ways a player can enjoy the game. There is an array of companions available as well, allowing for players to not always be the main damage dealer, as they can build a support character if they wish.

Classes such as bard and cleric are the notable support examples. Both can help the party in various ways, but can they also deal damage if needed. That's not to say other that classes can't do support either, as paladins and druids are also able to play in such a fashion if the player wants them to.
