While Killing Floor 3 is designed with co-op action at its core, sometimes you're forced to face the horrific bio-engineered hordes alone. When that happens, your choice of Perk becomes the deciding factor between getting torn to bits or making it out alive. When you're on your own and can't depend on teammates to watch your back or heal you, certain Perks come above the rest. When picking the right perk for solo play, you need to consider survivability, versatility, and the ability to handle large groups of Zeds in Killing Floor 3.

Killing Floor 3: The Evolution of Zeds Explained

The Best War Games sits down with Bill Munk, the lead combat designer for Tripwire Interactive's Killing Floor 3, to discuss the evolution of Zeds.

Best Solo Classes in Killing Floor 3

At launch, Killing Floor 3 has six Perks to choose from: Sharpshooter, Commando, Engineer, Medic, Firebug, and Ninja. Each Perk brings its own unique strengths and weaknesses to the battlefield. However, when you’re adventuring solo, you need a Perk that's balanced, self-sufficient, and capable of handling threats alone.

Keeping this in mind, here are a couple of solid picks for single-player survival:

Commando

Commando Killing Floor 3

The Commando is hands-down the best all-around Perk for solo players. They can be equipped with high fire-rate assault rifles and a drone. The drone acts as a temporary combat companion, auto-targeting enemies and giving you much-needed support, especially in the later stages of a round or during boss fights. Even though its ammo is limited, the drone’s precision and high damage output can make or break a tough encounter.

Another huge benefit is the Commando’s ability to extend Zed Time. This is a slow-motion effect that is triggered by headshots or kills. In solo play, this extra time gives you precious breathing room to reposition, reload, or finish off a tough Zed before things get out of control.

With a huge arsenal of automatic weapons, good ammo economy, and explosive grenades for crowd control, the Commando Perk in Killing Floor 3 is well-suited for players who want a versatile playstyle that balances DPS, crowd control, and tactical support.

Engineer

Engineer Killing Floor 3

If you want a more tactical and defensive approach when playing solo, the Engineer is a good alternative to the Commando. It specializes in shotguns and deployable turrets that give you both extra firepower and crowd control. In solo play, those turrets can act as the perfect backup, covering flanks, holding choke points, or thinning out Zed mobs while you focus on larger threats.

It’s best to pair the Engineer with powerful shotguns, like the Bonebreaker, a fan-favorite known for its brutal close-range damage. This makes the Engineer perfect for confined spaces and missions packed with relentless waves of Zeds.
