The Best Vampire Games (That Aren't Castlevania)

Castlevania might be the most iconic vampire gaming series out there, but there are plenty of other great vampire games.

For those who have not yet played, the age of the game and various glaring issues from its rushed completion might be apparent and unpalatable to them. Luckily, there is a thriving mod community for Bloodlines that helps elevate the game to standards that will help newer fans see why it holds such strong appeal with its existing fanbase.

8 Photo Mode

Snap Aesthetic Screenshots

Bloodlines aesthetic dark screeshot

Photo Mode is a mechanic introduced to most modern-day games, allowing players to snap the perfect photo which they can share with their friends for aesthetic success. This was something omitted in Bloodlines, as photo mode wasn't really a mechanic utilized in early 2000s games, but thankfully there is a mod for that.

This Photo Mode mod allows players to hide the UI, choose different lenses and levels of focus, and switch camera angles, so they can get the perfect screen grab by simply pressing a few keys.

7 Diabolical Diablerie

Introduces A Coveted Game Mechanic

Bloodlines Malkavian feeding

Most vampires feed on mortal humans or animals to slake their blood thirst and give them ample blood to use their discipline abilities, but some feast on the gore of other vampires, sometimes draining them down to the last drop. In kindred circles, this is known as "diablerie," and it is outlawed in Camarilla and Anarch domains.

Diablarie has its dangers, but the rewards are sometimes worth the risk, and now with this mod, players can dabble in the act in Bloodlines, as well as add a new generation (8-15), so players can even choose to be a Thin-Blood and feed their way to the top if they wish.

6 VampAmongUs

An Unexpected Crossover With Telltale

For those who enjoyed the unique art style of Telltale's narrative-driven titles, this mod is definitely for them. It takes the graphics in the game and painstakingly overhauls them to give them the graphic novel look of those games, specifically playing homage to The Wolf Among Us.

As both games are gothically noir, contain supernatural creatures, and many murders, The Wolf Among Us is definitely a fitting crossover, and there is no doubt Telltale could do a fantastic job with tackling a Vampire: the Masquerade game. Since the reality of that crossover seems unlikely, fans will just have to make do with this mod.

5 Selene From Underworld

Adds A Vampiric Legend

Those who enjoy vampire games are likely to indulge in other vampire media such as TV shows, books, and movies, and undoubtedly those who have would have seen, or at the very least heard of, the iconic vampire movie series Underworld, fronted by main character Selene.

This mod adds that leading lady to the game, replacing the female Brujah preset with Selene, in all her gun-wielding, leather-wearing coolness. Given that there are no customization options in the base game, mods like this are essential for players who aren't too fond of some of the clan presets.

4 HD Overhaul

Breathes Beauty Into An Old Game

Given that Bloodlines is so outdated, players who are used to more modern titles might be a bit reticent to dive into an old game that leaves a lot to be desired in the graphics department, as it is almost 20 years old at this point.

Thankfully, there is a mod dedicated to what might be Bloodlines' biggest downfall, called the HD Overhaul. As expected, this mod comes with a host of new and improved textures for character models, buildings, locations, objects...anything the player can see has been overhauled. It also comes with some brand-new music for clubs and combat if the in-game music isn't to players' particular tastes.

3 Clan Quest Mod

Hours Of New Content

The title of this mod is slightly misleading, as it adds so much more than other clan quest mods, making this an crucial pick-up for the fans who have already played Bloodlines to death.

All vampires in Vampire: The Masquerade have strengths and weaknesses, but which clan is the strongest?

Along with a quest for each playable clan, it also allows players to install other mods to enhance their experience, such as the Camarilla and Companion mods, but this only scratches the surface of everything this mod includes. Adding hours of bonus content to an already lengthy title, this mod is essential for fans who want more but can't wait for the release of Bloodlines 2.

2 The Undisciplined Caitiff

Adds Several New Clans

In the latest tabletop iteration of Vampire: the Masquerade, there are a total of 13 clans, seven of which made it into Bloodlines, with some glaring omissions. Thankfully, modders are here to save the day.

Though it only lists Caitiff in the title, this mod also allows players to choose to be a Thin-Blood or a City Gangrel. As well as introducing new clans, the game itself is improved with this mod, adding new quests and plot lines while also changing some that already existed. This drastic change keeps the game fresh for those players who have already sunk 100s of hours into it.

1 The Unofficial Patch

Essential Fix For The Base Game

If players don't download any other mods, they should at least download this one. The Unofficial Patch is a huge fan-made project kept alive by the passion and love of a dedicated and talented team of players who took the buggy mess of Bloodlines and fixed the most glaring issues while adding a few features of their own.

Not only does it resolve the compatibility issue with such a dated game running on more recent hardware and OS, but this patch also increases the quality of the textures and even adds a few more quests for fans to sink their fangs into. The Unofficial Patch is not only the best mod for Bloodlines, it is essential.
