It is almost impossible to play 7 Days To Die and not get infected at least once or twice. The game is filled to the brim with a whole host of hostile creatures that want nothing more than to chow down on the player, and many of them will leave a nasty infection as a memento.

While becoming infected is a bit of an inconvenience, there are plenty of ways to cure the infection before it has the chance of causing any damage. Death is inevitable in 7 Days To Die, but if the player can keep on top of any infections, then they may just be able to survive for a little bit longer.

About Infections In 7 Days To Die

What Happens If An Infection Is Left Untreated?

A Horde Of Glowing Zombies

Should the player decide to leave their infection as is, then it won't be long until they start noticing some pretty devastating side effects. Infections are broken down into 4 stages. Each stage has a list of side effects:

  • Stage 1 (0.1% - 14% Infection Rate): No visible effects.
  • Stage 2 (14.1% - 57% Infection Rate): -25% Stamina Regeneration.
  • Stage 3 (57.1% - 99.0% Infection Rate): -35% Stamina Regeneration, -1 to all Attributes.
  • Stage 4 (100% Infection Rate): Instant death.

The rate at which the infection grows is fairly slow. However, if the player gets hit by zombies after contracting the infection, then the infection will spread faster with each hit. So, it's important to seek treatment as soon as possible to prevent the infection from spreading.

There Is No Instant Cure

Unfortunately, players aren't able to pop a pill and see the infection magically disappear. It takes time. Once the player has taken an infection cure, they will see a bar on the left side of the screen that shows the infection slowly going away. There is no cure that will remove 100% of an infection.

There are a total of three different types of cures for infections in 7 Days To Die. Each one will cure a certain percentage of an infection. So, it is very important to get a cure as soon as possible to avoid needing to take multiple remedies.

As a minor measure, honey can be used to fight off an infection. It is the easiest cure to come by. Players can get honey by looting, completing trader missions, and by purchasing it from traders (if available).

But the most efficient way of getting honey is by destroying tree stumps. These can be found randomly in most biomes, but the forest biome is the best place to find lots of tree stumps.

There is no guarantee of finding a jar of honey upon destroying a tree stump. While percentages vary slightly, players can expect a 20% chance of harvesting some honey as they destroy a tree stump. That increases to 40% if the tree stump is close to a POI (point of interest).

Herbal Antibiotics

Herbal Antibiotics In 7 Days To Die
  • 1 dose of Herbal Antibiotics cures 10% of an infection.

Herbal Antibiotics are the second-best way to cure an infection. These can sometimes be purchased from traders, found in various loot containers (mostly medical containers), and sometimes given out as mission rewards.

Once the player has read a total of 30 Medical Journal magazines, they will be able to craft Herbal Antibiotics at a crafting station or a campfire. Crafting Herbal Antibiotics at a campfire will cost more than they would at a chemistry station. However, since chemistry stations aren't unlocked until later in the game, most players will use a campfire at their base to craft their first few doses of Herbal Antibiotics. To craft Herbal Antibiotics at a campfire, the player will need a cooking pot and the following ingredients:

  • 5 Blueberries
  • 3 Mushrooms
  • 3 Chrysanthemum
  • 3 Nitrate Powder
  • 1 Water

If the player has a chemistry station, then it will cost the following:

  • 2 Blueberries
  • 1 Mushroom
  • 1 Chrysanthemum
  • 1 Nitrate Powder
  • 1 Water

Antibiotics

Antibiotics In 7 Days To Die

  • 1 dose of Antibiotics cures 25% of an infection.

Antibiotics are highly effective at curing the player's infection, as they will reduce the infection rate by a total of 25%. Similar to the previous entry, players can get this through searching medical containers, purchasing them, or as mission rewards. When it comes to purchasing medical supplies, Trader Jen is the one who specializes in the medical field. She has the highest chance of having antibiotics for sale.

Players can also craft antibiotics at a cooking station or a chemistry station. However, they will need to read a total of 60 Medical Journal magazines to unlock the ability to craft antibiotics. If the player doesn't have access to a chemistry station, then they will need a beaker in order to make some over a campfire. The cost of crafting antibiotics over a campfire is:

  • 4 Old Sham Sandwich
  • 3 Nitrate Powder
  • 1 Water

Just like Herbal Antibiotics, it is cheaper to craft antibiotics at a chemistry station. To do this, the player will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 Old Sham Sandwich
  • 1 Nitrate Powder
  • 1 Water
