Beloved day one Xbox Game Pass game Blue Prince will never get a direct sequel. Blue Prince made quite the splash when it joined the Xbox Game Pass subscription service earlier this year. Not only did the critically-acclaimed first-person roguelike puzzler join Game Pass as a day one release, but it debuted on PS Plus Extra the very same day.
Blue Prince being a day one game for both Game Pass and PS Plus ensured that it reached an even wider audience than it would have otherwise, though word of mouth likely would have led to it being a big success regardless. Blue Prince is one of the highest-rated new game releases of 2025, and has been nominated for Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie at The Game Awards 2025. Considering the game's success, one would think that its developer would be interested in making a sequel, but apparently that's not the case.
Xbox Game Pass is Now $30, But You Shouldn't Cancel Just Yet
Microsoft has increased the price of Xbox Game Pass, but you should still hold off on canceling the service.
Blue Prince 2 is Never Happening
Speaking to Polygon, Blue Prince developer Tonda Ros stated, "There will not be a direct sequel to Blue Prince." Ros did leave the door open for a new game set in the Blue Prince universe, though cautioned that it may not offer the same kind of gameplay as the original. "I want all my projects to be able to stand up on their own and be unique things. That's just the type of sequel that I like. I like Myst followed by Riven, not Myst 2." Fans will likely respect Ros' reasoning, though there will surely be many that are disappointed that a Blue Prince 2 will apparently ever happen.
Blue Prince was released in one of the absolute biggest months in the history of Xbox Game Pass. The very same month that Blue Prince was added to the subscription service, fellow Game Awards nominee Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 hit the scene as a day one game. And if that weren't enough, Oblivion Remastered was shadow dropped around the same time as well. It was an exciting month for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, to say the least.
There will not be a direct sequel to Blue Prince.
Unfortunately, the excitement surrounding Xbox Game Pass earlier in the year has been dampened by the decision to jack up its price. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate now costs $29.99 per month, which means that it will need to be delivering more months of the caliber of April 2025 if it hopes to keep people signed up. In the meantime, Game Pass subscribers can enjoy the heavy hitters that were added this year, Blue Prince included.
