The Fallout franchise has celebrated another year with its annual Fallout Day celebration, and the lead-up to this live-stream event built up plenty of speculation and theories. There were several Fallout announcements made, but unfortunately, a lot of them weren't what many fans were expecting, especially when it comes to expected new releases.

Fallout 5 is years down the road, so a fresh mainline entry definitely was not in the cards. However, the year has been filled with rumors and hope about a potential new version of Fallout: New Vegas or Fallout 3. The Fallout Day stream has now come and gone with no mention of such remasters or remakes. Instead, Bethesda will be bringing a different entry into the spotlight for its next special edition release: Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 Gets Another Special Edition, While Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas Still Don't Have Remasters

  • Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition will be available on November 10.
  • The special edition included six add-ons.
  • New Creation Club content will also be included.

For those who are die-hard Fallout 4 fans, this announcement is bound to ignite some excitement, as it's a way to celebrate the game's 10-year anniversary, but it also stings for fans who have been wanting something other than Fallout 4 content. This anniversary version of Fallout 4 isn't really bringing anything fresh to the table besides the Creation Club content that's made special for the bundle. All (or at least most) of the DLCs included are likely already owned by a lot of players who have the base version of the game. Ultimately, it feels like a repeat of Bethesda's tendency to repackage Skyrim in a variety of ways over the years.

The DLCs included in Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition are Automatron, Far Harbor, Nuka-World, and the three Workshop expansions.

Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas Still Sit on the Sidelines

Earlier this month, prominent leaker Nate the Hate stated doubt that Bethesda would reveal a Fallout 3 remaster during Fallout Day, and it appears that those assumptions were sadly accurate. Between Fallout 3 and New Vegas, the two have been at the center of Fallout-based rumors, and right now, the states of the two beloved titles are still huge mysteries.

These two installments in the Fallout franchise are hailed by a lot of fans as some of the best entries, which makes the lack of a remaster that much more frustrating. Of course, everyone's favorite Fallout game is going to be different, but the demand for these two to be remastered has continued to be present across social media platforms.

Fallout: New Vegas will at least get a 15th anniversary bundle in 2026.

Oblivion Remastered Hopefully Hasn't Created False Hope

  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was released back in April 2025.
  • The remaster was co-developed by Virtuos and Bethesda.

The remaster of Oblivion proved to be one of the biggest surprises of the year, and it has been incredibly successful. With a fresh coat of paint, the remastered Oblivion both impressed longtime fans and also introduced a brand-new generation of players to the series. However, the success of Oblivion could have set up fellow past Bethesda projects for disappointment. Leaks and rumors about the expected Fallout 3 remaster have yet to be confirmed by Bethesda, and this recent Fallout Day celebration still keeps the hoped-for project in murky waters.

Also, as far as it's known, there are no actual plans for a New Vegas remaster. Obsidian Entertainment, the studio who developed New Vegas under Bethesda, is participating in a special Fallout Fan Celebration panel to honor the game on November 15, but it seems unlikely that this stage will be the place to make an announcement as big as a remaster. For now, both Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters remain pipe dreams, and only time will tell if they finally become reality.
