Baldur's Gate 3 offers players an incredible and lengthy adventure, but at some point, while exploring the vast world, gamers might want to take a small break and pause the game. Officially, Larian Studios has not introduced a pause feature to Baldur's Gate 3, which is a shame since most modern games feature the option.
Of course, there are ways for players to step away from the screen without worrying about being attacked by enemy NPCs. Without further ado, here are some helpful methods that players can use to pause Baldur's Gate 3.
Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Stop Shadow Curse
In this guide, players will learn how to stop the Shadow Curse in Baldur's Gate 3, so they can safely explore Shadow Lands.
How to Pause in Baldur's Gate 3
As mentioned above, there is no direct way to pause Baldur's Gate 3. Even if players go into the settings, the game will not stop, but there are certain tricks available for those looking to stall the game.
Basically, this method is very similar to how pausing works in Soulslike games. If players see no hostile NPCs around, they have nothing to worry about because no one will attack during that short time. If the group is in dangerous locations, or players suspect that someone might attack from around the corner, then they should be careful and use an alternative way to pause Baldur’s Gate 3.
Turn-Based Mode
Turn-based mode is the easiest and most effective way to pause Baldur's Gate 3. This mode is a switch between direct real-time and turn-based gameplay. Turn-based mode allows players to move each companion individually. Here's how to enable Turn-Based Mode on PC and PS5:
- PC: To enable Turn-Based Mode on PC, players need to hold down Shift + Space. Alternatively, this mode can be enabled by clicking on the hourglass in the lower-right corner of the screen.
- PS5: On the PS5 gamepad, press the R2 trigger to open the wheel menu and select Turn-Based Mode, which looks like an hourglass. Turn-Based Mode can also be turned off in the same menu by simply clicking on the hourglass once again.
Baldur’s Gate 3: All Points of No Return in Act 1, 2, and 3
Here's everything players need to know about the points of no return in Acts 1, 2, and 3 of Baldur's Gate 3.
Stay in Camp
The camp is the safest place in Baldur's Gate 3. To get to the camp, players should open the map and select Camp in the Waypoints tab in the upper-right corner. Here, players may not worry about being attacked. Though this method won't pause the game, it provides a safehaven for players who wish to take a break.
